how do you control how many people are on the boat or how many rods are in the water if everyone is fishing separate lakes?
Edit: i just read that it was an Honour system.

Yes we are relying on people being good honest anglers wanting to compete in a fair tourney. Also any suspicion of cheating will be looked into. If deemed cheating occurred that boat will be disqualified without refund.
We may have a few teams fishing the same lakes so they may be able to see each other and verify no funny business between teams.

Have you looked into the fish donkey app? That would work really well for this type of tournament.

Great idea. Wish I could join but have previous plans for that weekend. One thing that I suggest to keep people from cheating is the night before the tourney starts you as the organizer sends out some sort of plan to have a certain item/prop in the measurement picture. Example take the treble off a certain type of lure and each entry/measurement picture must have the item/prop included in the picture to make it a valid entry. You know there are certain types of fishing lures that everyone has in their tackle box. This just takes the risk out of any cheating. It’s surprising what people will do when $$$ is involved.

I LOVE this idea. Thank you. I will implement something of this variety to help prevent any type of pre fishing

Send out a playing card randomly selected and posted prior to going out. Every photo will have some reference to that, either an actual card face or a hand drawn facsimile.
A couple of CRR tournaments I attend call out the 4 of clubs or queen of hearts or what prior to the stagger start and we have to draw that image on their measuring board.

Yes good idea. We will be implementing a form of this. Would you like to take part in the tourney?

Just wondering, If my original entry partner for some reason cannot make it, can that person be replaced by another partner? Also, I have always had a fishing licence but because I am 65 now do I still need a licence to fish your derby?

Yes you can change your partner.
Just want the fishing laws to be followed. If you are not required to buy a fishing license because you are now 65 then you do not need one to participate in the tournament. Just the entry fee.

I won't be entering as I'm too busy with work (and don't own a motorboat hehe), but very cool of you to put this on. I read the rules and it looks like fun, hopefully everybody keeps it honest. Looking forward to seeing some pics. Good luck everybody.

So am I understanding that this fishing can occur on whatever lake the angler picks? People will be fishing on different lakes.
I don't have an appropriate boat but would love to go if someone needs a partner/team. I don't have a ton of walleye experience (more fly-fishing trout and spinning pike) but have caught them before. I live in Calgary.
Thanks.

Yes that is the case.
Well hopefully you can partner up with someone. I will be a fun tournament.

Kitt,
You probably do need a Competitive Fishing Event licence as the individual prizes are greater than $100.
Check in with AEP to keep yourself and participants in the clear from any fines.

I talked to AEP and the AGLC prior to creating the event and was told I am good to go with this style tournament

Good to hear.
Please accept that I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, just concerned that you may be getting bad advice that could cause trouble down the road.
This wouldn't be the first time I've seen it happen.
I would make sure I had AEP approval in writing.
AEP clearly states that non-competitive fishing events require individual prizes to be less than $100, prizes cannot be based on fishing success, and prizes must NOT be based on weight/length.

Have fun everyone!

I appreciate the concern and I understand where you are coming from.
But this event is actually considered a competitive fishing event. Not a non competitive one.
There are 4 types of CFE. 3 require a license. 1 does not. We are the one that does not.
The CFE form would be half blank or N/A. Due to us all being on different lakes and not using any facilities.
AEP told me they are concerned about the resource( the pressure on the fish) we are all on different lakes and under 25 participants. We aren't all in one location town campsite either.
The money issue is what the gaming commission is concerned about and they told me since it is a pure skill based event with no chance prizes or activities we are good to go.
