Suckers galore

To chain lakes sunday ice extremely rough,drove across lake to the usual spot,beautiful mild not much wind,ice thickness good,fishing just offshore,about 17ft of water,useing worms,Then the suckers hit,ultimate worm robbers,got a doz or so and two small trout--this for years a place could pick up limit of 5 trout ,not big mind you but good eating.some good news however big herd of mule deer on the road on the way back ,looked in good shape,stopped as they crossed a few ft in front of the vehicle.

What are you actually doing with all these suckers? Releasing them back? Or eating them? Or something else? 🤔

They are good pickled. When I lived in Wisconsin, we used to fish suckers during the spring run and pickle them. Tasty!

Not for me,but my wife has an exotic cooking recipe,so nothing goes back some say an invasive specis--

I'm not sure about being an invasive specie, since they are native to local reservoirs. And is your wife's exotic recipe also a secrete one, or could you share it with me, always eager to try new dish

I cought a few and gave them to a friend. He ground them up and made fish patties , the grinder took out most of the bones. He said it is a good sweet meat.

For years we went to chain ,picked up our 10 trout and went home,roll in flour fry,suckers maybe ok for smokeing,but they have taken over the lake invasive or not,i noticed most fisherman left them on the ice for the birds of prey or yotes,my wife from indonesia ,well ,do you a favour,cooks beyond hot.

Suckers in a put and take fishery are not the best. They do compete with trout for food. In a natural system they should be put back.

Buddy twist your wife's arm for that secret recipe.As you no there are these f--king Goldfish.They are showing up everywhere.Maybe wifey's recipe is good for Goldfish[Prussian Carp]...Sucker's & Goldfish are bottom feeders that suck up all the food ,that trout,perch etc.Are missing out on.

I remember fishing chain 30 years ago and getting mostly suckers. In fact guys would throw them on the ice and there would be piles everywhere. At night the coyotes would come and clean them up. Seemed to me it was about 10 suckers to every one trout.
