Default This rain has to be really needed

The trees must be thirsty going into winter. This rain likely came just in time.

Calgary has had a steady rain all morning.

Been raining here since at least minite last nite, off andf on, definitely needed, not enough to do any real good, but, still nice to see. And here we are in late October yet, talking about rain. It's a strange year.
Shot this last week, a roost that esentially mostly dried up over the last 3-4 yrs, but, this year, pretty much completed the drying, has two damp spots left on it. Was at a resrevoir this last wk, it's down at least 6ft from this year's what I think is the hight water mark.On of the colonies here pumped water 6mi from another farm to fill the farm pond this yr, may have to refill the one they pumpe in the spring, if the winter and spring precipitation doesn't do the job.6mi of 8" line and two 500hp pumps.

We have actually had a steady rain since about 11 last night here just north of Edmonton. Probably got 3/4". We really needed it too, been pretty dry for quite a while but at least the ponds and creeks here are still pretty full. I hope the Western States are getting a bunch of this, they really have it bad this year, all the way down to California.

No kidding this rain was needed badly, the soil is so parched and dusty it’s no good at all. It’s crazy I would water the trees, bushes and flower beds and go back the next day and it was like I never watered at all. Hopefully this puts some water in the sloughs, lakes and rivers, they need every bit, that being said there will probably be very little runoff as the soil will just absorb everything because it is so dry.

Had a steady rain since about 0530hrs. this morning. Still drizzling. Not sure how much but have a bunch of puddles around.

Yep, this long overdue moisture will help a little in regards to the trees...and farmers in the area I'm sure...

The rain is needed because without enough soil moisture, the trees, grass, WINTER WHEAT, will desiccate through the winter. (that means dry out, even though the ground is "cold".)

What happens next spring is dead plants.

Alot of farmers are seeding winter wheat, that starts growing in the fall, and keeps going in the spring for earlier harvest.

Alberta typically does not plant winter wheat as we are so busy getting off the "Spring Wheat" that there is not enough time in the fall to seed so there is germination.

This year was different as alot of crops were dead from the June heat wave, and were plowed under early and there was sufficient ground moisture for germination.

Yes, we need alot of ground moisture quick while the ground is still warm enough to absorb the water.

Limestone is white this morning and will stay that way.
