Lots of wolves up this way Nube! Picked up my second of the season yesterday! Missed one the other day! Only had .22 with me. Stupid mistake! .223 from now on!

Lots of wolves up here as well but the best spot to hang snares is on the neighbours line. They do come onto ours as well and I hung some snares up there so hopefully at least one of em will get hung up yet. Starting to carry my .223 as well, just in case....

I had a visitor at a bait pile a couple of weeks ago. I'm gonna need a bigger snare I think.

He was sporting some pretty nice head gear this Fall.

Default Couple days on the line.

Headed out fri at noon and made to the cabin by 3pm, nice day of -19C and sunny. Checked some sets 357XP made last check, beaver had chewed thru the ice to get more food. Some easy pickings, no ice to chop just pick up! Next morning was -33C, took my time sipping my coffee and watching the sun come up over the treeline.

Picked up two more cats in blind trail sets, making it 18 this season and a week to go. Seems they are not interested in any bait sets, even though they don't have any extra fat.

Hey jim. Having the same problems here, but only on cubby sets. I have gotten 4 of 6 lynx in foothold sets with bait wired to a tree stump! I haven't even had any luck with blind trail sets this year!

Default Rats.

This was from fall when I was open water trapping. I used mostly colony traps, as well as baited floaters and 110 connys. Just about to get back on the ice.

Went exploring along the creek, and found some great area for next years trapping. Alot of beaver dams along the way and nice forest on the banks.
IMG_1825.jpg IMG_1831.jpg

All was going well till i took a short cut across the creek. As the skis touch the creek bottom i felt the ice give way and only managed halfway up the other bank and slid back into the water. My tub on the back filled with water and my rifle was completly under.
357xp had a small hand winch along, soon had it up the bank and opened my tub to see my Sat phone and other gear floating in water.
So much for always being prepared!

Picked up another 3 cats, caught 21 over the season. Set a number of under ice beaver traps and snares, great day to be out in Alberta`s northern wilderness.

Mark, we are working on 144 sq miles. Still have not seen all of it yet, some area's have no cutlines or just over grown so the only option is following natural terrain like creeks and old burns.

Seems we now have an influx of Wolverine, found a spot where a beaver was fozen under 12" of ice. The wolverine had found it, chewed thru the ice and was feeding on it. Intreasting that the wolverine found it frozen under 12" of ice, and 2 feet of snow, must have a super good sense of smell.
Chased another off the snowmobile trail when it heard us coming.

Pic of the hole it dug.

Jim I spooked a wolverine out of a beaver house once. It had dug its way into the house and killed the beaver and taken up residence. I also found a deer that was dug up by a wolverine after drowning and freezing under a couple feet of ice.

Here is a pic inside of the hole of the beaver. Gotta give that gulo credit for digging a foot of solid ice to get a meal.
