Default Ground temperature

Got talking with the neighbour about old root cellars, then on to geo thermal stuff.

I can find winter time temperatures on google that say ground temp 10ft down from surface is above freezing, but what is the approximate temp 10ft down in the middle of summer??

Rough estimate is 0 to +5 degrees

Back when we put in a ground source geothermal heat pump system, as a test house for a friend's new business in geothermal, the average ground temp year round down 5 feet where we put the lines was approximately 47-50 degrees F or 9-10 C. Now, that was in far southern Ontario dirt (Chatham area). It worked very well! House was warm in winter and cool in summer. And it was very efficient. I don't know the long term value because we sold the place in 1993 and only had about 5 years of data.

We were told, and data revealed, that the average ground temp below frost is always constant.

Ive never looked into geothermal. But realized that next year when we build our acreage were gonna have 1100ft of trenches for water lines from well to house, house to shop, then house to garden. Im gonna research how a geothermal horizontal loop system works.

Google says 1100ft would only yield about about 24000 btu. Not enough to worry about pursuing
