Petzl.
I have a few headlamps from them.
This is my favorite.

I bought it for when I'm in heavily treed areas. Now I use it everywhere, awesome brightness, batteries last a while.
One of their cheaper models is always in my pack as backup.

Different people like a different lumen output for the same task.
I like things to be really bright/ on high. Where you may find the low setting to be acceptable.

For hunting or fishing or anything else in the dark I go with the Everready "Tough case". They have a seperate compartment on back of head that holds 2 AA. very comfortable, very bright or dim as you like. Also the 2 AA's last a long time. Very affordable also. Saw them on sale at Home Depot the other day for 25.00

Zebra light is the best there is hands down. Over 1000 lumen on turbo if needed. Lots of sub levels. Not cheap but I have had mine over 5 years and it's still going strong.

I have the Petzl Tikka R+. It has three levels of brightness on adaptive lighting mode, which bring the light to its max setting for the mode and then drop its down to a lower lumen when the light is up close, such as setting traps or snares. It also has a simple fixed lighting mode. Pretty crude description but it is nice to be running 170 lumens while looking for something but then it drops to 40 when you are looking right in front of you when doing something like setting a new snare. http://www.petzl.com/en/Sport/PERFOR...T#.Vmrlzcp30Q8

i just bought a headlamp for trapping a few weeks ago. I picked up a coast HL7 from home depot of all places! its a fantastic light for the money!! you can focus the beam for a wide angle when working at a set or focus it for a spot light to check snares from a distance. the light has a dimmer switch control as well. best thing about it is I don't have to take my gloves off to use the controls. very user friendly. 196 lumens

X2 on the Everyeady Hard Case. I use this one exclusively. Mine has 3 AA batteries and is rated at 250 lumens which is plenty bright for my needs. Canadian Tire has them for $29.
but routinely put them on sale for $22.00.

A couple of months ago I noticed Walmart brought in a new line of flashlites called Police Security. Among them was a headlight rated at 400 lumens for $40.00. I went back a few weeks later to perhaps buy one but they had none left. Does anyone have any experience with this new Police Security line of lights?

I remember seeing a thread in the hunting section about headlamps. You might find some good info in there with a search.

Default Headlamps

There was a member on here called watchmaker, who did extremely thorough reviews on flashlights. Might be worth doing a search to see if he did any headlamp write ups.
