Default Fishing near Dawson Park - NSR

So I got tagged to go with my son's class to the Dragon Boat visit.

The kids are in the boats first then looks like some down time waiting for the busses to leave.

I was thinking might be a good opportunity to bring a rod and see about C&R a a goldeye or two with the kids while waiting.

Has anyone shore fished the river there?

Would appreciate any pointers as I am not much of a river fisherman nor have I ever targeted goldeye.

Thanks

Water-filled type bobber, 2 ft leader, hook/worm. Haven't fished that location, but all you have to do is find water 5-6 ft deep and you have a chance.

C&r on goldeye is tricky, they have gills close to the mouth and tend to bleed a lot.

From where the Dawson park parking lot is walk towards the north (downstream) along the bank. Before you get to the big bend to the east there is a beaver house. Right in front of that area is fishable. Bottom fishing with bait or spincast with lures, spoons or rubbertail jigs. It is main channel fishing so you could even try for sturgeon there. Don't fish the spillway a little way downstream from there as it is snag city.

Thanks kindly. I reckon we'll be getting rained on along the way!

I grabbed some spin cast lures. I am only rolling a light travel rig so want to stay away from the sturgies!

No live in the spin casts although with 8 kids and oen rod it was pandemonium.

Think the fish were scared to the far bank when the kids were there.
