Default Line for lakers?

Planning on hitting Cold lake for some lakers and was thinking to use my summer spinning reel.
Just curious what pound test a guy should use and what do you prefer Mono, Floro or Superline?

Thanks,
Mike

You can run virtually anything (braid/mono etc.) you are comfortable with.

I would, however, always run a clear leader (attach swivel) of some sort. I'd use mono or floro for the last 4-8 feet so the finicky eaters don't have another reason to say no to your snack.

Heavier test in winter with good abrasion resistance is also a good idea in case you get a pig that is hole shy.

We run 30lb suffix braid and 20lb Seguar leaders. The braid makes it very nice for setting the hook and feeling the bite in 80+ feet.

Cory what would be the point to running the 30 lb main line if your always gonna break the 20lb leader?

I ask cause on the coast you leader is always heavier than your main line to take the teeth.

Does everyone prefer a fluro leader for ice fishing? Again on the coast I like to run ultragreen.

Im thinking something in 15 ish lb super and a 20 lb floro leader would be a semi decent "light" setup

Mike
Give Seagur line a try, I have been using it for tournament fishing for walleye to all BC salmon that run though the Fraser to the Veder....

6-8 for walter and 14 for Salmon

For your main line use braided.....big benefit is it does not have a lot of memory and will stay much straighter/tighter than mono. This can be a great help when you are in 80+ feet of water.

Does it get stiff in the cold?
