Sea Duck Outfitters on West Coast?

Hi Everyone,

I was thinking today about my potential plans for this upcoming season. With my dreams of international hunting this year questionable at best (for Covid related & quarantine reasons) I was thinking about some Canadian adventures that might be a good "Plan B" for this year.

I found out this year that there are multiple species of sea ducks on the West Coast (that I didn't realize we had over here). So I'm interested in planning a hunt.

I haven't been able to find ANY outfitter information whatsoever for sea duck hunting on Vancouver Island. Can anyone recommend an outfitter who knows their stuff and could put me onto some sea ducks successfully?

Specifically I'm interested in targeting Surf Scoters, Oldsquaws, and Harlequin Ducks.

I read a great article by Ken Bailey about hunting near Comox for them, but it didn't seem to have any outfitter information, as I believe he may have been hunting with a friend. Any contacts or outfitter recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks for this, although I don't see any outfitters there in Canada on the West Coast.

It's interesting because I've really tried to find info on this before and came up pretty much empty handed...

I'll get on the phone one of these days with some local hunting shops up there if I can't find out anything else through other channels...

Doubt you will find an outfit that guides seas ducks in BC. BC doesn’t have much for waterfowl guides. Only one I know of that is known as a quality outfitter is in vanderhoof geese/puddle ducks.

Odds are you are stuck doing it DIY or maybe a BC host if you want to hunt seas ducks in BC. I know there is sea duck guides on the east coast though
