Default Best swimming holes in alberta

Beaches, swimming holes... this little out of the way spots where you can take the family for a day at the beach or a nice swim in the river. Where do you like to go?

All the good places are crowded.
All the empty places are gross.
And all the good, empty places are secret.

There might be a nice old mine shaft out past nordegg. Crystal clear water, only a few people know about it, a cliff to jump off of, deep water, plenty of room to swim... yea it’s great.

But I’m not telling where for the reasons posted above.

Carbondale River Falls

Beautiful. South of Blairmore.

Rock to jump off. Deep clear pool to swim in.

Love it there and not a ton of people.

Quarry Lake in Canmore is where the locals hide out. Jump off cliff. Clear water.

Many spots along the Livingstone. Nice cool pools.

Now that the cattle have ruined the spot and made it pretty much uninhabitable to humans I guess it won’t hurt to talk about my old swimming hole complete with rope and dock. West of sundre on 734 just dont let the water touch your lips and you may not die.

There was a good swimming and snorkeling hole just West of the Fas Gas where you cross the tracks outside of Okotoks. Some big bulls, rainbows and suckers to stare at and a sandy beach. Better spots, but this is a decent one close. Not sure how much the floods changed it as I haven't been there for a few years.

I've never been there but as far as beaches go you could try Cottontail Corner beach on the North Saskatchewan river.
Across the river and upstream of Devon. One of the few places you can see a full moon at noon. Probably a few full moons. It is a clothing optional beach so you probably won't want to take older kids there.

For central Alberta The west lake at Twin lakes west of Hwy 2 on Hwy 13 is always clean swimming water. Edmonton diving club has been diving there for years. Typical Alberta campground too. Can't say there is much of a beach though.

A couple of boot burns on each leg (one from rolling down your rubber boots for relief from the first set) and a farmer tan looks cool at the beach!
