I think you'll find the price is pretty similar anywhere you look. You might find a 50c difference here or there, but you're not going to find them half price or anything.

Rapala keeps the prices high, because they know people will still pay for them

Well are Rapala worth what you pay?
Because at pro bass shop, there are other things that are good but only half the price.

I love them, but as someone once said - "They're designed to catch fishermen".

I'm certain the other brands work too - but you'll find they aren't exactly pennies cheap either.

Wholesale sports has some Rapalas on sale right now for much less than $10:

Deep Tail Dancer - $6.88

DT Flat Series - $6.88

DT Series - $5.88

Fat Rap - $4.88

Glass Fat Rap - $5.88

There are also some reasonably regular priced ones:

Husky Jerk (AWESOME lures) - $6.79

Original Rattlin Rap (Another great lure!) - $5.99

GM is going to kill me for posting but its to help a kid out. Bass pro is the most expensive place to buy rapalas. it is actually shocking. goto walmart. almost $2 cheaper. less selection but if your looking for the CDs, they have them. you just have to hit wally world when they get there new shipment in.

rapalas are great but they are definitely not the only thing fish bite on. give the guys on this forum more detail on what you are fishing for / where you fish and I bet the guys on here could tell you tons of different gear that you will have luck with. Rapala's are only one good tool in a fisherman's warchest but there are several others that perform just as well. there are some good guys who have already responded to your thread that I know like helping young guys out so all you need to do is ask the questions and they will help you.

And let's not forget the gas you have to spend to get all the way up to BPS and back!

Driving to bass pro is not a good use of gas, driving to your fishing spot is. It's that simple.

lots of talk about where to buy stuff...heres my 2 cents

Buy from a place you trust and will have your back, when not only does your 5.99 item go to chit but also when your 5999.00 item craps out.
Buying from 1 place gives you the Cheers advantage.....NORM!!!!!!
The pennies you save from being shopping **** wont equal out the long term math.

example- remember the rapala longcast minnow....in my mind a absolute Bow river killer and the very best night walleye shore crank bait.
Because the staff knew i used this lure ALOT, they called me when it was discontinued. I took every lure the chain had.....88 for 88 bucks. No sales at all the other stores would make up for that one NORM advantage....and thats one example.
p.s. i dont go there without delivering lunch once and awhile or timmies....double doulbles, french vanilla or steeped tea depending on who's working that day.

If you're worried about returning stuff that craps out on you, then there is no safer bet than Walmart. They'll take it back even if you lose your receipt.

I don't know anywhere that's going to take back your lure when it gets hung up on the rocks.

Default Rapala Lures

Hey yada;
Yes Rapala lures are expensive, and so is all the other fishing gear.If you have more patience than money and want to accumulate lures and fishing gear at a reasonable price take a little advice.
Start by going around to pawn shops and look for tackle boxes of lures etc.
You will have to buy the whole box with a large varity of lures, floats etc.
The advantage to this is you will have more types of lures than just Rapala to choose from.
Do not overlook garage sales.Lots of oldtimers quit fishing and have dozens of boxes of lures.(I have thirteen tackle boxes in my garage.)
Have your relations check out garage sales for you and phone you when they see a tackle box for sale. You will be amazed at how soon you will have a large selection of fishing lures at a reasonable price.
You will have sooooooo many you won't have to work, just enjoy fishing.
Good luck and tight lines
Cheers
Rainbow

ya i second that.

but i have a cheaper and just as effective solution

1. When dams let out the water in the spring go lure hunting

2. Make your own rapalas!!!!

its quite simple take wire bend it so there is three of four loops in it
Then cut and shape a peice of wood so the wire fits into a groove you cut into the wood
cut a notch for the lip and put it in, glue it there with some epoxy
then wrap it in string and tie it off
Paint it
Finally coat the whole thing in epoxy if you dont want it to be scraoped up by fish teeth

They work just fine.
