best all season 1/2 ton tires

Had a few sets of wild country tires over the years and were awesome, but the last set were trash. So i am going to switch, whats the best ( tread life, good on ice, and load range e ).

Have a look at the general grabber AT2. I just got a set put on at canadian tire, buy one get one half price. Cant comment on thread life but they are an awesome winter tire. Almost got to relearn how to drive they hook up so good. Used to running mudders in the winter. For the price they are worth a look

Been listed on topics here already. Great all around overall tire. Awesome winter, great summer and mud traction and good wear!

I have 85K on my 2500HD on the first set and still should get another 10-15K, and we average 85-110K on the 1/2 tons.

CT has the Wrangler Territory - pretty similar...my fatherinlaw has a set on his 2500HD diesel - seem to wearing good so far with about 25K.

Best tire I have had is the General AT2, even in 2 wheel drive they feel like the are pulling in 4wheel, in 4 wheel the are unbelievable.

Just put the new designed Toyo open country AT2's on and they are a step above the Michelin and Bridgestone's that I've had.

I havent found a General tire worth the rubber to blow it to H e L L, maybe 25 to 30 thou on a 3/4 ton ,, i went to these on my trucks now,

You get more than that? ive come to accept 40,000 out of a tire to be exceptional. Granted I am hard on them, lots of offroad and offroad towing

I just put a set of BFG Winter Slalom's on my 1968 1/2 ton they are an incredible tire just got back from 2200km trip through many mountian passes in Northern/Southern BC with a mix of ice, light snow, heavy snow and slush. No wieght in the truck and it handled like I was driving on dry pavement. I could not be happier with this winter tire oh and I averaged 60 miles per hour and never once felt unstable. I know it is not an all season but thought I would throw it out there.

I expect way more than that,,,the last generals i put i dint even get 20 thou,, went to a wrangler, got just over 20 thou,, went to the first hankooks, and got just about a full year out of them 60 thou plus, ,,mostly all gravel with heavy loads,,,I am rough on tires so i wanted somethign that was gonna hold up to the abuse they get,, have 4 different sets of the hankooks now and great in the snow,,mud and ice, throw some weight in the back and better yet.

When you say mud, what kind of mud you talkin about. I have gone toa dedicated set of winters(studded AT2) and dedicated mudder(toyo MT) I havent found anything in between yet. Tired of trying to find something in between, it just doesnt exist.

Bar none I'm totally impressed with Nokian Rotiiva ATs. I have a 2007 Tundra and just put them on after suffering with Nitto Terra Grappler ATs. Absolutely night and day in the winter, plus the Nokians are much quieter with a smoother ride. They don't look as "cool" as some of the other AT tires out there, but safety and performance are much higher on my list of important features than looks.

I use Pro Comp Xtreme MTs on my Jeep and they're a blast in snow, not very noisy and wear very well.... but not the best for ice. The ones I have to say do the job in the winter here on my wife's car (Nokian WRs) and on my brother's Jeep in Ft S J are Nokians. Two totally different tires but same great results for the winter driving each of them do.

Definitely worth a look, several thumbs up from me and my family...

Yokohama Geolanders treated me good. I got about 90k out of them on a GMC half ton with regular rotations. I only hit the ditch w/ them on one occasion and that was because a semi driver pulling super b's didn't bother to look in his mirror before pulling out to pass. They got me up and down some pretty crappy lease roads, and icy roads. A great tire.

I have heard great things about Hankook Tires. My mechanic swears by them and says they are the best bang for the buck.

Another tip for you when it comes time to buy is to look on Kijiji for new take offs. A good example is Michelin LTX AT2's. They are a well reviewed tire that will fit most needs. For my truck which has 18's, they are $350 per tire after tax and levies. They routinely come up on Kijiji for $800;and sometimes cheaper for the set with less than 100 kms on them.

The flip side of Kijiji, is how many people state that their tires have "approx. 80% tread left" when they are really at 25%.

I have used Hankook tires as well and they are good tires for sure. I find they have really good traction however the tread wear on them is not quite as good as others. Seems they have softer rubber to give them that great traction but it wears down a little faster especially on gravel.

I've had both Goodyear Silent Armor ProGrades and Michelin LTX M&S on my work van, and the Michelins were much better across the board; wear, ice traction & braking. There were in a load range D on a 3/4 ton cargo van though.

The Michelin LTXs I have wore great but I was never comfortable with them on ice. Had my truck sitting parked on my daughters driveway and had someone knocked on the door to tell us that the truck had slid onto the street. Even sitting on snowy hills you could feel the tire slip once in a while.

LTX's are the worst all season ever.. I use them in the summer only, and my lowly 6L 3/4 can loose traction on the wet VERY easily.

I am surprised to see no comments on the BFG all terrains from the amount of trucks I see running them. Personally I have put them on 6 different trucks over the years and have been happy with the tread wear and performance

For sure, I am a bit disappointed with mine. I thought the siping would be more beneficial on ice, but not really. Definitely no good when I go off-road or into deeper snow (not what they're designed for, though). I'm regretting not going for the AT version of those.
