Well I personally would wait another couple of weeks. I never head out until I know there is at least 10 inches of good ice. If you do go be careful and drill lots of holes and try and stay close to shore.

i think burnstick should almost be ready to go. i was on both buck lake (south shore) and medecine lake on saturday, they both had bout 3-6 inch of ice, good enough to fish of the shore a ways so i can see how burnstick could be any worse then either of them. i hope to get out there a.s.a.p myself

Default Burntstick

Just remember Burntstick has some very deep spots. As you know the deep takes longer to freeze than the shallows. be careful if you get out in the deep hole areas. As a regular there, be careful this time of year. I would love to join if someone is going on a weekday.

I would day it would be ok to walk out on. If you go in the east entrance to the resort and walk on near the resort boat launch, should be fine. But there's no way its good yet all over. Same for the west launch as well.

If you look at the 14 day trend, the cold weather will be here and I'd wait another weekend to go. Be safe out there friends.

Ah really? There is fish everywhere in this lake. Fish on any of the drop offs and there should be perch everywhere, fish on the ridge flats and there should be pike.

I may try Burntstick on Thursday. Do tip-ups work for perch? Never fished for perch before. I understand perch and pike are the species in this lake. Is that all I should be on the hunt for? Thanks.

Default Walleye too.

There are also walleyes in there too. We have caught several. Mostly perch with the odd pike is the norm, but don't be surprised to pull up the occasional walleye.

Yep, there are walleye...and I know where they are!!! Ha! But there isn't many.

Tip-ups won't work for perch. But there is plenty of spots to setup on a dropoff. Set your tip-up on the to of the ridge and rig it with a large smelt (6-8"). Then go down the drop off and fish for perch with an ultra lite rod. Use a small spoon and maggots.

Currently at the north east end by the little dam and campground. Been here a few hours with no bites. Any suggestions on where to go? Never been here before and no idea where the drops and ridges are. Thanks.

Hard to describe without being there but the NE is all shallow flat if you move to the west shore (running from SW to NE) and move about 1/3 half way down from the NW corner you should be able to start finding structure

If the x's are the shore and you are at Y then try around M

Ice was 6 or 7 inches around the dam/campground area. No fish though! Went to Birch and caught a nice brookie before heading home. Same ice thickness at Birch.

Was there for a few hours (11:00-2:00 I think) and no I didn't see anything that swims. I think I will try another spot on the lake next time. Any tips?

Default Where?

Try in front of the cottages in about 20-25 ft of water for perch.
Go to the north west end corner and fish in the corner just where the weeds start dropping off and perch is good there as well as pike. Don't fish quite as deep there as the pike tend to be a bit more shallow. There are a couple good spots on the opposite side of the lake from the cottages as well. Same thing fish the areas just off the drop areas. Most of these work good there in summer as well especially the north end.
