That 1.5 games back is huge according to sportsclubstats.

As of today Oilers chance of making the playoffs is 94.5%

Flames chances of making the playoffs is 48.6%

No homer there, just stats.

Absolutely (that also takes into account games played, homes games, opponents, back to back, etc., but I digress). But if the season ends and Edmonton makes it and Calgary doesn't, it has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Kinda like if a City Golf (Oilers) beat a GT350R (Flames) around a circuit by 5 seconds. Yes, 5 seconds in racing is huge, but would you be talking about how fast a City Golf is and rush out and buy one or would you be talking about how badly the GT350R botched it?

That’s pretty interesting the huge gap in %. We play Boston twice in the next handful of games, will be interesting to see how we come out and play. If there’s no intensity or sense of urgency, don’t really deserve to make the playoffs.

And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

Potential, or what You deem potential, means nada. Last year means nada. That's why they play the games. Play harder. Win more. Right now your team is a lot healthier than the Oilers and not making up ground.

"The belief is Noah Hanifin was part of a package that the Flames put together to try to land Taylor Hall from New Jersey in November." TSN

Found that interesting. Seems like Brad is pushing to do something.

It’s plain to see. Flames overachieving last year wasn’t happening again this year.
They have settled into their rightful spot.

An un-drafted guy wins the Norris, Johnny gets 100 points (99 actually), and your AHL/IHL goalie stands on his head for half the season. You have the same team this year minus the above mentioned achievements. The only real change was a swap of Hathaway for Lucic.

Are you really under achieving this year or was it an over achievement last year?

So did the oilers underachieve last year, or are they overachieving this year?

A number of admitted Oiler fans were talking about this over lunch today. We all agreed that that the team would not be in this position if the previous GM and coach were still in place. We would be down a mature player or two -- RNH or Nurse through a trade and no way the Todd would have played Yam or changed the structure of the teams play. So the management change is a huge factor.

It's pretty obvious they are under achieving this year. I'd be impressed if you could find any preseason ranking that had the Flames in 8th in the West. And then there's they are the 2nd best road team in the league, but can't win at home, and multiple losses to bottom 5 teams. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they beat Boston but lose to Detroit.

Rittich an AHL/IHL goalie. That's about as amateurish a troll job as saying McDavids not top 10 in the NHL.

Did he not start out as the back-up last year?

In the salary cap era I believe that any team doesn't make the post season has under achieved.

But "Team" does not refer only to the blades on the ice. The "Team" is the entire organization from the owner right down to the prospects. So the Oiler's other than 17-18 have definitely had their run of under achieving as an organization on the whole.

We are 8th best team in the league since a November 20th, and that’s with inconsistent play.

Only in your dreams.

But your current nightmare is real and likely to last for years.

Big sale on, I actually got the last pair. Think I saw Jamie in front of me. Bigjohn aka dead moose further up

If I recall right it was last year around this time. I mentioned on the flames thread they were missing something for a cup run. Some toughness. I don't care how fast the NHL has gotten. Still need some toughness, particularly in the playoffs. Actually suggested you needed a "Kassian" type player or two. I recall getting scoffed at by quite a few flames fans, even yourself if I remember right. How did the playoffs work out? This year you get Lucic and all those same fans are giddy they now have some team toughness. Unfortunately it's 4th line toughness. I tried to be positive.....What do I know, only been watching the BOA since the '80's
