World record 1,000 yard group
Interesting, this has been all over facebook lately, but the date is from 2018.
I don't recall seeing it before so figured I would post it here.
I remember when Bill Shehane broke the IBS record twice in a summer with a 6/284 variant, and that was crazy, this is off the charts!

Curious
I've benched out to 400 yds - minute of deer accuracy only. What sort of sight picture would you be looking at from 1000 yds out? Type of scope?

I had no problems shooting 1000yds with a 3-18x50 scope, the shooter was using a 12-42x56 nightforce I believe.

I have run everything from straight 15X to 9X36X scopes at 1K and some out to 1 mile.
Sight picture depends a lot of the reticle itself, and in a variable, weather you are using a first or second focal plane scope.
However even my FFP 36X IOR on my 308 gives me a good sight picture on a 1MOA plate at 1K to where I can stay around 1/2 MOA ( appprox. 5") if I pay attention to the condition.
The difference however is that I can stay AROUND 1/2 MOA, that is the size of the Vbull on an Fclass target- accomplished Fclassers stay IN the V Bulll, NOT around it!

It’s nice to see what’s possible. But I’d be happy with 20” square

Be it a couple of years old or not, still quite the day for that fella, it likely will be a long time before he ever gets anywhere close to that again.

It is all very intriguing
Long distance shooting stirs the soul I think. I have been playing with a 7x57 AI out to 400 with average results; I think I need to update my glass to one of those Nightforce bench rest tubes!

I always say the wind has some effect. But the he shots must have been the same wind and in itself is awesome. I’m shooting to 600y and 5mph is max. That’s 18” of drift.

I get up and do the happy dance when I ding the 6" gong at 500m. This would be like 5 shots into a quarter at 500m. The equipment comes into play of course, but no denying the skill required. If it was goldilocks conditions, then everyone was shooting in the same ballpark.
