This is real old news.
Many firearms owners even went as far as contacting the Federal Privacy Commision on this matter.(I did) A lot of noise was made, but no sanction or ruling was handed out, since they deemed that the first two characters of a postal code was not a contravention of the privacy standards.
Most spoke of it as a potential shopping list for firearms.
I saw it as a way of finding no or low gun zones for home invasions.
Either way this data base should never have happened.
