7mm-08. Everyone I talk to about this caliber rants and raves about it, and all in a short action!

it appears that you have a niche between 7mm and 24 cals, the 2506 would fill it nicely.
but then again a 7mm08 could use the same bullets as the 7mag, same goes for the 308win and your 300winmag, thusly reducing shelf stock.

choosing custom calibers, in my 'spouting off behind a keyboard' opinion, is a tough decision. the real problem is that in order to justify the extra expense, custom dies, finicky load recipes and so on, is that you have to create/select a cartridge that have a clear and distinct advantage over its parent case that isnt available already.
case in point...a 270 gibbs/AI is a whisker faster than a 270win, yet a 270short fat is 'better' than both, but not quite a 270wby, then the 270allen mag. n'so on.
dont get me wrong, i think custom grinds are cool, and have a couple in mind for myself...
in mud bogging, the solution to more horsepower is bigger tires, the solution to bigger tires is more horsepower,
its the circle of life
boy...im glad its not me thats plagued by this new gun dilemma.

It would be hard to top the 7mm-08 for your intended use.

Maybe look at how the various models of rifle fit your lady.

Shortened stocks are good, but grip dimensions and barrel length can be big detractors.

A grip too far from the trigger wont work for a smaller handed person.
Short barrels result in more preceeved muzzle blast to the shooter.

Oh ya then there is balance.

Good luck.

Oh ya all three calibers will work as can the, 6.5x55, 260 rem, 7x57, 257 Roberts and 270Win.

Go do some test driving.

Curious as to why? I am picking up a 25-06 and just making sure I am making the right decision.

For deer sized game,I prefer the 25-06,but the 7mm-08 is a little more suitable for larger game.

Default .308

The .308 is a great choice for a smaller person.Want a little more velocity out of it, try 130 gr. tsx bullets.I have shot several animals with a remington 700 TI and this bullet and it works well.A lot better choices of bullets if you want to hunt heavier game with it as well.

Default Lady's Rifle

My wife loves her Tikka T3 LS 270WSM. Shoots 140gr Accubonds superbly. Great performasnce on big game-elk, moose, deer, bears at various distances.

7mm-08 would be another good one as mentioned.
