Default Coathanger rockie whitefish setup

Hello.

Ok, so essentially the coathanger piece replaces a lead weight and as mentioned in other posts,, the length and weight of it depends on what pound test you use,, 5 inches is more than plenty. Cast upstream, reel in the the slack but not so fast as to be reeling faster than the flow, keep your rod straight out from you and not pointed towards the incoming line. perfect for rockie bottom swift water, rarely snags and presents the flies perfect.

The red/black is the coathanger the off lines are snelled flies,,, if using royal coachman cut the white wing shorter, by half, #10 hook is as big as you need, maggots optional

If anyone has any modifications to this, please post,, my dad likes to give his coathanger a bit of a bend and another fellow on another thread mentioned solder,, I set up a solder weight and it's even better because you can make the top slim for attaching to your line, with the coathanger you have to bend and hammer and eye which sometimes picks up debris. If you have braid, just use a swivel and make a set-up that you can clip on and off. I only go with one fly as double headers are frequent in the right waters and nothing worse than losing a beaut Rainbow due to a scrappy rockie or vice versa.
