Backpacking/Fly Fishing Trips

Hello to all! I am considering this my rookie season as a fly fisher, even though I have owned a fly rod since I was 12 yrs old! Was wondering if any of you guys (ladies) have done any over night backpacking trips in search of hidden creeks, rivers or lakes?

I am planning a 3 day trip up to Fortress Lake in June, I have heard nothing but amazing cutty action from there... I also know its a 25km hike in, but hey if it was easy everybody would do it!

If anybody has any information about Fortress Lake or any other great spots here in Alberta or eastern B.C. I would love to hear about them!!!

If you are talking about Fortress in Hamber park B.C., you would be fishing for brookies, not cutties.

Maybe give Kakwa Lake a shot.

Gentlemen:

I believe he is talking about the Fortress Lake here in AB. About 4 km from the ski area.

It does have cutthroat trout in it.

Fortress has huge brook trout! Timing is going to be critical in June, as the ice usually comes off the lake in late May to early June. The Chaba River crossing could be a real challenge once the run off starts. I've fished it right after ice off with good success. That was the first time that I ever had to worry about avalanches while trolling!

You know, with how late things are. The Chaba might be okay in early June.
But then again, It might be a spring monster.

Would love to go up there for a trip... But my buddies say it's to far....
Another good place to go is upper & lower Michele lake. Golden trout, opens Aug 1

I have several spots I used to go to. Get away from the crowds, and the roads. Get some some good maps, and maybe some aerial photos. I keep doing the Google satellite maps looking to narrow the search down. Lots of the spots that were hike ins in the 80's I can drive to within a couple miles. Hoping to hit a spot I haven't been in 15 years. Crossing my fingers the beaver dams are still holding.

After you start getting to those spots, you won't be happy until you get to another spot. Those remote spots spoil you.

I also suggest you don't tell anybody where you have been going. Word travels fast, and soon you end up finding garbage on your way in. When I think of who I took in to the one spot.....A good partner is hard to find.

I totally agree hiking in is THE way to find the honey spot going to be doing alot of that this summer...cant wait...going out for a trial run this wednsday

Marvel Lake...long hike, great and pretty easy trail, amazing fishing, lots of 20" cutts!!!
