thinking caps; has anyone tried a method like this that worked

I need to long distance cast (approximately 175 plus feet) a float with a floating dry to proceed it. I tried a weighted float but every other cast due to distance requirements had backlash tangling for lack of a better description. I figure a sliding weight with a larger line threading hole might help allow float and fly to rise to surface and hopefully detangle. or better yet (and discounting water fillable floats, what is the smoothest shape of a weighted float that you know? I'm about to try making a floating stick of sorts, 1/8th diameter.

I was thinking a kite too. if the rc boat was quiet it would be great, a drone would work too.

the casting distance is not a problem, but the whip that accompanies it to get it out there.

A bobber that you put some water into to give you wieght to cast.

And a surfcasting rod

Google bombarda or controller floats, I think that is what you mean, you will need a heavy float though to reach the distances you mention though

You need a boat or some other watercraft so you can get closer to cast.

Simple, instead of using a weighted bobber use a weighted slip bobber. That way you won't get any tangles and should be able to cast a long distance.

A quick search online shows Rainbow Plastics Tough Bubbles to be a brand that might be worth trying, there are probably others out there too.

That's quite the distance to throw your line out. I've seen guys trolling with rc boats, for pike that is.

my idea kinda worked but not as good as hoped. so I went back to a weighted float. tomorrow I am going to spray foam a larger len Thompson lure then gently carve the foam away into a slip stream shape and voila.

As for distance, I use a tfo heavy action rod that is rated for 1 1/4 ounces and have the reel filled with 8lb limp mono. I also employ the surfcasters technique for distance casting which helps a ton.

I do like the water filled floats too but wish they were slimmer. I've been stalking a finicky rainbow for a few days, almost got a committal the other day but this fish is like the queen inspecting cutlery at supper time.

"Sbirolino" float, made for exact purpose you're trying to do. Not sure you'll find them in North America but Europe has them.
