Default Chinook sizes

Love to hear how big and often those springs are, few fisherman said go farther up the island if you want bigger fish. Everyone I talked to, and fishing boards seem to say teenagers to maybe a few just over 30. Our trip in Sooke we got low twenties, only 3 pinks, guess pinks were very thick a few days prior. How's everyone else making out?

Just got back Monday from Rupert.
Fishing was great for salmon.
Coho avg 12 lbs, you have throw the smaller ones back. If you took your time and were very selective you should be able to avg 14-15 lbs. For my taste the Coho are the best eating.
The Chinooks that were still around this late in the season were a good size, the group caught a few in the mid 20's and one at 33.

We don't keep pinks

First time we went in August and would go again, usually we go in July.

The Real Big Ones were never all that common...

Here's the late Ricky Becker with a 37 and 28 pounder from my rig a few years back:

And a True Biggie at 66 Pounds:

We don't see many of the latter size any more. That said, high 30's and even 40's are still around. Takes Time,. Persistence and not bonking smaller ones to collect. Best bets these years: Nitinat (still), Conuma (Nootka), River Inlet and the Queen Charlottes (I REFUSE to call the latter by it's "indian name").

Cheers,
Nog
