Default What a Natural Gas GONG show free gas

http://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4371280

You would think there was better planning. Now they are paying people to take the natural gas away.

All they can pray for is a bitter cold winter in the east. But that won't happen.

I can see a lot more downtown offices going empty in Cowtown now.

This is really unprecedented to have negative natural gas prices. Transcanada not doing a good job at all in planning.

This might effect the Federal Revenue. Poor pipeline decisions. A mess.

I think alot of the problem here comes from BC tbh. A lot of companies ramped up production planning on the BC LNG export terminals but good ole Christy had to make sure that BC got their fair share.

Now they get their fair share of absolutely nothing.

This could be potentially great news.
If Alberta was going to convert all generating stations from coal to natural gas, we would have very cheap electricity for a long time, and a continual supply of feedstock.

Most companies don't buy a lot on the spot market. They sign long term firm contracts that guarantee price and supply.

Your bill is broken in to; gas price/volume, admin fees, delivery fees, taxes, etc, etc, so you still get to pay a basic amount regardless of usage.

The money must be in the delivery I suspect.

My gas bill I received today says

Gas Cost was

1.211/GJ Sep 16 - Sep 30
1.519/GJ Oct 01 - Oct 14

On top of the actual Gas Cost add:

Delivery
Default Supply

Base Energy Charge
Third Party Transportation

Property and Franchise Fee

Carbon Levy

GST

I think a large part of the problem is all the drilling in the liquids rich gas plays like the montney and duverny. The companies make hay on the condensate and other liquids then whatever gas comes out they just dump on the market.

The united states is also producing more and more gas which slowly reduces our export market.

We have to start using gas locally for petrochemicals or burning it to make power... our only customer will eventually be self sufficient at the rate they are producing more gas.

Considering winter is getting warmer it is getting tougher to draw down gas inventories and burn it off for heating these days it seems.

Too bad no one is trying to promote the use of nat gas for power or petrochemicals eh? Lol

How about a return to the gold old days of burning 100>200 mmcf/d to recover the condensate. Used to happen in Tirner Valley - went on for years.
The gas was 2>6% H2S - you could smell Turner Valley from Brooks.

So what the hey? Just keep it in the ground, together with condensate, until it can be used. Another 50 thousand years or so won't bother it.

It's being drilled/produced because borrowed money is too cheap right now not to. If any resource is free, people will waste infinite amounts of it just to get a tiny bit of value out of it.

All the easy-to-get gas/oil is gone, so the technically more complicated stuff is being exploited now on borrowed funds. But that doesn't mean it's infinite. It will become so hard to get eventually that people will have to go back to coal for heating.

I'd rather have industry use pulverized coal, and reserve gas use for piped supply to residences. it's nasty to have to carry 100-pound bags of coal down into the basement every Saturday morning to feed the boiler with.

This could spell the end of global warming as we know it. And kinda set "Peak gas" back a bit too.
