The only rifle I don't shoot in this list, is the .204. As I have not made up my mind if I want one for sure or not. But I am still in the hunt for one just in case.
.204 = gophers, and yotes better ballistics than the .243 or the .22's (if there using bullets under 65 grs) but might be a bit light, for shoots over 300yds on dogs.
.222= gophers/yotes in close and personal to 250 yds.
.22-250 rem or AI = 300+yds. ( gophers/yotes) The .22's with a 80 gr. bullet has better ballistics than the .243 with a 85gr bullet
.243 = yotes to 300+ yds. but hard on pelts (can be used as a deer rifle as well)
.260 = 350+ Elk,moose, deer and yotes but really hard on pelts with the 95gr.v-max. (deer and elk etc. you should go to a 140gr.)
.22 Sierra 55gr. Blitz K B.C. = .271, Ve= 3850 fps.
.204 Hornady 40gr. V-max B.C. = .275, Ve= 3850 fps.
.260 Hornady 95gr. V-Max B.C. = .365 Ve= 2965 fps.
.243 Speer 85gr. Spitzer B.C. = .404, Ve= 3100 fps.
.22 Hornady 75gr. V-max B.C. = .435, Ve= 3400 fps.
.22 Hornady 80gr. V-Max B.C = .453, Ve= 3300 fps.
.260 Berger 140gr. VLD H B.C= .595, Ve= 2622 fps.
I am sure some will argue points on this post, but this is just my opinion, and my results. Your research may produce different results.

Do you mean A-max or V-max. I was unaware they made V-max heavier than 60 gr. in .224.......

Good catch, you are 100% correct it should read A-Max not V-Max, my bad.

i hope your being sarcastic! or is this a running gag
d go 2506 with 75gr, then it doubles as a legal rifle or wolfy sized,
if it was a deadycated yote gun, id go 22250 and not look at pennies per shot.
if it was cost related id go 17hmr

Don't forget there is also the realm of 17's! Not the little rimfire hmr either. The .17 remington and the .17 remington fireball. I have a .22-250, .223, and a .17 rem. Mostly I shoot the .22-250, but the .17 on a good day is extremly efective on yotes and does 0 damage to hydes. Little too windy and I swap to the .22-250. There will be all kinds of guys that will tell ya it fouls barrels realy easy, but that is no longer the case with todays powders. I can shoot gophers all day with it and not need to clean it, hell I'll go all weekend before I clean it shooting gophers and thats about 500-600 rounds easy. Just something to consider

I love my Ruger Mini 14 which is a .223. I call it my coyote killer, usually only needs 1 shot but with the semi auto there always a second, 3rd or 4rth ready to go just in case.
I use cheap wolf and bear hollow point ammo and it works great. It's always funner shooting when your not conscious of how many bullets and $ your spending. Lot's of practice target shooting and lot's of dead small animals
I know there are more accurate guns out there but my ruger is pretty good, and they are a really fun gun to own. Tonnes of after market stuff as well.
my two cents.

Ive used most of these guns and they all perform well. In the winter when keeping hides I use a .223 but when just yote hunting for fun when the pelts are no good I love my 25-06 with 85grain noslers. One other thing to consider is barrel life the .223 and .204 will not burn out a barrel near as fast as the 22-250 so depending on how much shooting one does its something to think about. Just my opinion though good luck

well if you are in an area with closer shots or have a bait setup I like the 17hmr it's cheap, a lot quieter in case you want perhaps a go a a 2nd coyote after a little, and deadly out to well I've taken them at 175 yards before and they dropped in their tracks. I've also been considered getting a 243 not that it is any better or worse that the .220 swift, 22-250, or the .223 as any of these guns will wack a coyote dead out to 500 yards in a heartbeat in the hands of the right shooter with the right ammo for the gun. I'm just considering getting the 243 as you can poke deer with it too and it would be a good gun for the recoil sensitive shooter.

The. 22-250 started out as a .250 savage necked down to the .224. THe 204 is a .204. Any of the above calibres will do wonderfully on varmits. I am very partial to the .223 just because of how common the availability of ammo. Lots of surplus fmj ammo out there, and in all honestly its just a coyote so why spend a crap load of $$ on fancy bullets for them? Just my opinion.. Good luck

I am of the same opinion and recently added a scope to my CZ 858 to make it into a general play/coyote gun.
The surplus 7.62 ammo is dirt cheap.....$200/1120 rounds.
Quite a bit cheaper than .223 ammo, not as good at longer ranges but even me and my blind eyes can hit at 300 yards pretty good with it.
I can buy hunting ammo for it too if I ever want to shoot a deer with it.
All in all I'm pretty happy with my little toy....
