Default Cypress Hills

Wondering if anyone has been by there lately and if there is enough ice off to consider heading out there. Reesor was good to me all winter, never made it to Spruce, and I want to try Bullshead this year.

Awesome, thanks KJP. I have a few days off coming this week, I've never been there so I'm looking forward to it. Any suggestions on casting lures or jigs? I know there is a bait ban so my usual tricks won't apply.

Don't know about this week-end, but I was there last Saturday.

-Reesor was still on ice. There was a small spot where to fish, but it was taken. The dude caught 2x rainbows there.
-Spruce coulee was still on ice with people ice fishing in a group....seemed dangerous to me, but well. what do I know. I'm used to 36 inches + ice thickness on Yellowknife bay, so everything less is not familiar to me.
-Elkwater was on ice.

I tried to get to Bullhead, but didnt reach it...never been there, but I drove around most of the day in the hills, so I was bored and turned back...

Great info, thanks Delavan! Looking forward to getting back to Ressor and Spruce, too. I'm told the easiest way from Medicine Hat to Bullshead is to head south 35 km on Eagle Butte road through Dunmore and it's on the left. Maybe see you out there?

As of yesterday Ressor was partly open - mostly around the edges. Bullshead fished slower than past years. We used streamer and leech patterns.

Thanks K, what would recommend for lures if spincasting instead of fly?

I'd suggest trying a fly under a casting float, small 5 of diamonds spoon or small mepps/ panther martin spinners

Thanks, I have a small stable of spinners that I was going to start off with. Might have some old flies of my Dad's about, although they would be decades old but still in original packaging.
