Default Stand up paddle board fishing

I have seen a few fishing shows now where they fish off a stand up paddle board that appears specifically designed for fishing. Anyone ever use one?

If your balance is really good... sure.

Would be fun to target spawning lake trout or whitefish.

I know SUP people who fish but I think most of them paddle to a nice spot and fish from shore.

but why, it's such a disadvantage? there is a reason most people don't fish from SUPs.

Quinn?

I have one. I believe it is a huge adavnatage. #1 it’s portable I take it on the plane to Mexico and fish in the ocean. #2 you have a awesome perspective and field of view from standing instead of sitting. They can be used in very shallow water when you remove the fin. I float down streams into premium trout areas, while others have to walk way in there. I have everything on it including a helix 5 fish finder. Sitting on a cooler makes it much more stable. Don’t get me wrong it is still a change. I am running a boat drift bugslinger.

As a kayak fisherman I don't see the appeal since with a good fishing kayak you can stand and are able to carry more gear and cover more ground.

Yes the kayak has the advantage of a peddl drive and trolling. That would be nice. I don’t know about being able to carry more gear. I don’t think I could ever think of anything else to strap on my SUP. It’s got a tone of room to strap stuff on. Check out the Bote boards websight they have some awesome fishing videos.

There is always more stuff .

I have had my 7 inch fish finder with side imaging transducer, 35 ah battery, downrigger, rod holder, 8 plano trays of tackle, 6 fishing rods/reel combos, a net, camping gear and food for multiple days on my kayak. That is part of the reason I don't want a bigger kayak because then I would take even more stuff with me lol.

The main thing I don't like about sups is that most do not have a decent seat(which imo is a must but I like to go fish for 12+ hour days multiple days in a row) and that you use your arms/full body to get around which I imagine gets tiring quick if fighting wind.

Other then that they can work good and there are some that are fairly decked out(like those Bote boards. If you were fishing smaller ponds most of the time and fly fishing they could be quite nice to use. My one kayak is an inflatable and is a mixture between a kayak and stand up paddle board(same shape as a sup but has a seat and pedal drive).

I have hiked my inflatable into Lakeland PP for a quick 2 night trip with minimal gear. I cant say I overly enjoyed fishing from it. An inflatable board and fish hooks with thrashing pike is not a great combo. A few times I envisioned a limp noodle 8km down the lake. Also there was something weird about my legs dangling in the water as I reeled them in. Was an awesome trip and Ill do it again with the iSUP. However I much prefer fishing from a boat.
