Marcum LX-7
I have been looking into getting a sonar unit for ice-fishing since I have never had one. I have been doing some research and figured that I would likely go with either a Marcum LX-5 or a Humminbird Ice 55. Then I did more digging and was thinking that the Vexilar FL22 would be the way to go. Now,I just found a little teaser video that Marcum will be releasing an LX-7 in the fall. Now I have to wait before making a purchase since it will surely be better than the LX-5(which is a great unit.)
Decisions,decisions.

X2 Chubb.
I can't walk or drive my truck on lakes in the summer and I hate the heat.

The only good things about winter are snow plowing, and leaving it to go to Hawaii.
There's something soooo wrong with you guys.

I bet we dont see that lx7 this year in canada....the lx5 was in the usa 5 months before we saw it.
It appears to be led also.....but i'll still give it a go.
Not sure how it can out perform the lx5 though

Give me +40 u will take it before -30. I have worked outside for many years in both, too hot you find shade and drink water, too cold you die.
I have had 1 vacation in 30 years of working, Bubbles.

I debated between Marcum and Vexilar for a couple years. I finally settled on the Marcum LX-5. The major advantage is that I can set a 5' or 10' zoom window (depending on depth of fishing) anywhere is the water column. This is a key feature when the fish are suspending.
With the Vexilar you can only zoom in on the bottom 6' of the water column and cannot move the zoom around. Zoom is key because it gives much greater target separation and you can really hone in on the strike distance of a given fish.
During my shopping I did not consider the Hummingbird. However, after seeing them in action they make quick work of finding the bottom by posting a digital depth in the centre of the screen. I have found it difficult to find bottom when fishing in dense weeds, something the bird can make quick and easy work of. They also have the option of adding in more colours into the sonar to make more accurate target separation. To do things over I would heavily consider the ICE-55.

Love the LX-5. It is so responsive and accurate - I can see maggots fall down through the water column. Jig and such is easy. The only Vexilar I've had to compare it to was a unit owned by my brother and last I used it was about 20 years ago. It seemed to detect fish well too. I'm another weird one - I can't wait for ice fishing! Been feeling that way for a while already. But having said that, if it weren't for ice fishing I'd have no use for winter either despite summer heat being a pain.

Maybe the good people of AO could send me money so that I could get one. That would be much better than me having to work for one. If there is any extra money left over I can get it custom engraved and maybe put some custom neon lights on it to dress it up.
For anybody not knowing,I am joking and this is in reference to another fine gentleman who operates this way.

ROFL!!!
I had better watch what I post or I might be facing a stealthy attack of a cane wielding Ninja showcasing his cat-like prowess with stick weaponry. People not in the know, only see a charity achieved minivan being driven by a card carrying AISH recipient. Those of us privileged enough to know better, understand the fury just waiting to be unleashed by the proud and well respected person inside the van in the form of violent PM's.

If it happens,it's going to be a very busy place!
I don't think the guy will post up here anymore after what he's done. I have a hard time believing that a guy would take advantage of people's generosity and then laugh about it when caught;but that's what he did. I am certain that the members who gave him money would have rather put it in their kids' bank accounts if they knew then what is knowledge now.
Any apology given if he did post again would be seen as the lie that it would surely be. What he did happened over months and is proof of his real character. The guy is a liar and a fraud and likely always will be. The people whom he took advantage of are likely more disappointed and feel let down with him than angry. I'm sure he still sleeps well at night though.

They do look like a really nice flasher but I think I will stick with my ice 45 for awhile and think about upgrading a few years down the road. The only thing I would like to see added to the new marcum would be to add a navigation gps set up with it so it would be an all around unit. That was the only thing I didn't see on the video. Other then that it does look really good. Hopefully the lcd screen works good in the extreme cold temps that we tend to get around here once and awhile.

Ya it would be nice to have the gps onboard but I'm gonna get one anyway and just keep using the hand held. I won't get rid of my Lx5 though, at least not this year.

The lx5 is a sun-up to sun-down unit now...and just barely. Add gps and your looking for power epecially on really cold days. I dont want to modify batteries but i do always carry a full charged spare with me. I prefer my color hunt-c is in the breast pocket of my floater suit...all cozzy and warm

It will be interesting to see how the battery life is. I see Marcum are shipping pretty much everything with 9ah batteries now. That should help some, but I always bring a spare along as well.

Damn you people. Now I have to spend more money.
BTW...anyone use their flasher on the boat now? I haven't tried that but maybe I will tomorrow.
