Sounds like they let the assistants go as well in SAN JOSE.
They must have a good back up plan in place.

Kinda feel for the guy. Most teams are going to do poorly with approx. $8M tied up in goaltending and a 0.890 SA%. And that's with Burns, Karlsson, and Vlasic on the back end.

Seems like a harsh year. Deboer, Montgomery, Peters, Hynes, and Babcock so far and it's not even Christmas yet. With two other obvious teams that did quite well last season and are currently out of the playoffs in Tampa and Nashville, you gotta thing management has discussed removing Cooper and Laviolette. Especially considered Cooper was the previous GM's hire.

Yup, hard year on coaches for sure. How do you replace these guys, now, with all the due diligence on background checks, and all. It’s going to get real interesting.
Blashill in Detroit has to be on thin ice too.

Didn't Cooper just re-sign last year for a fairly large contract? Also if Nashville lets go of Laviolette I think he will be most sought after coach out there... that is if he doesn't have any skeletons in his closet.

I think Blashill is o.k. Detroit is kinda where they are suppose to be in the standings right now. Detroit never really had a succession plan for the exit of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Larkin is close but isn't the leader they need yet. Detroit has some really great young pieces and with a little draft luck over the next couple years should be a good team in 3-4 years.

I don't think there is any fear of the NHL running out of coaching options. With the way junior and AHL teams are run now, the transition up is not that big of a jump. Also I think with are going to see more international coaches with the level of hockey now being played in Russia and Europe.

Stevie Y will get it. He was with Detroit for 4 years before they had a winning record. They were over 500 in 87-88 (barely) but then went another 3 years sub 500. Detroit got really good at the end of his career, not at the beginning.

Maybe I should have said patients of the owners, they can only bleed, so much money before they put pressure on the GM

Do Flames experts think Ward is going to be a long term coach or just fill in until a more established coach is hired?

If he keeps this up, he will be the coach they hire.

With what's gone on with NHL coaches in the last few weeks it seems there is a new age coach required to handle these "new age" empowered players perhaps.

Maybe an established coach isn't the way to go? Who knows. One thing for sure, the vetting will be ramped up ten fold.

Better hope it is not the "Hitchcock Honeymoon" phase we had last year. Won the first 8-9 after the coaching change and then **** the bed for the rest of the year.

I would. Assume that they would not want to make any decisions, until the end of the season, to avoid any more turmoil, but you never know. Sounds like Ward was on the radar before they hired Glue gun.

Looks like the Sharks, have announced Bougner as interim head coach, and 3 others to his coaching staff.

Won't know that until hindsight is applied. Two coaching changes "in season" can't be good either. Has it ever worked in the past?

I think they stick with him because A: two coaching changes in a season is bad for players mentally, especially if systems and style change, and B: because Ward has 6 straight wins, which is the franchise record for new coach, and he is already a 'known' factor to players and management. Sutter only had 4. (And we don't want a Sutter back. I cringe to think what could come out there...). If Ward has a good record at the end of this season, then they go with him in 20/21....if not?

Ward was an assistant to Claude Julian, when Boston won the cup, and had another good run a year or 2 later. So if they make the playoffs, he does have some experience there.

Would be sweet haha. I hope the crowd brings it, last time I watched a Leafs game at the dome, you would swear it was in TO. Think was more Leaf fans there than Flames.

I'd think the ref would be embarrased to call that. Jankowski, full extentions, reaches out and taps buddy on the hand, he drops like a rock, and Jankowski gets a tripping penalty.
