Default making our own bait attraction

Hi, Some time,, many moons ago I made some bait to try for fishing derby I went to. Supposed to attract fish like lingcod. It was a mixture of anise powder and I guess some type of oil and then we dipped small cotton balls into this. Anyone ever make these? what did I leave out? Had ling cod for the first time last nite and its soooooooo good.

My dad used to make it but he passed away and I was young and stupid and wasn’t interested in fishing at that time so never asked… Anyway, since you are trying - what I think might work is fish oil (but I am pretty much sure it's not the missing ingredient). There is plenty of it in the health stores. I think you should find a mix (not pure salmon oil), it should work better, in my opinion.
Good luck
