Default What color paint for a canoe?

I just got a canoe that needs some work including a new paint job but I have no idea what color I want it. I do know I do not want red or green, everyone has those I work in a paint warehouse so the color selection is endless.

What would you pick?

I would suggest painting it a bright color so heaven forbid if you need help it can be spotted.

I would say white. Red and yellow both oxidize quite badly. Someday my red canoe will be pink.

Paint it that pearly white color like an escalade. That would look cool in the water. If that kind of paint is available.

Some one might try stealing it though, I hear the Escalade's have that problem.

Maybe paint it like some rainbows, You could leave it on the beach, go home and return the next weekend and it will still be there !

Camo maybe? Metallic paints are an option, pearls are possible but they arent cheap.
Keep the ideas coming.
Shelly, if you wax your canoe it will refresh the red color a little.

If you were going into the backcountry like Algonquin Park, ON I'd say Yellow with a big orange "HELP" on the bottom.

For here, why not jazz it up and go black zebra strips on white?

Could do a design like the ones used in tattoos -black on white would look neat.

Actually my wife does some neat wildlife artistic type designs that I want her to paint on the family canoe. But it means me doing all the sanding, paint purchasing and prep work, priming, plus restaining and finishing the wood trim,.....so this project is a a little lower on the priority rating.

How about tiger stripes...orange and black.

I was thinking about doing some airbrushing on it but I think it would get scratched off.

I'm gonna suggest plaid. Better to go with your family Tartan if you've got any Scot in ya. If you want visibility from the air for potential emergencies, put the bright hi-vis color un the underside of yer kilt.

How long did you drive this baby??? Before getting jacked for it.

As for it getting scratched...hmmm....not sure of the steps, but I was thinking sanding all the surface until no top coat/surface prep is left, painting, and then finding a good tough surface coating. As you can tell, I know nothing about painting a canoe, but there has to be some bodymen with fiberglass knowledge on here or elsewhere that could give some advice. But the basics are probably the same.....need a smoooooth tough top coating.

I'd say it depends on where you usually use it and for what. Gonna use it as a duckblind? green/camo. Going to use it on a busy lake with lots of boats/morons? Yellow, blaze, etc.
