Default Boat Tracking App

I am looking for an iPhone App that will track my boating path and also allow me to add waypoints (where i caught a fish!). Having a basemap with any lake outline is ideal. I expect to be off cell signal, so it has to work offlline.

I am thinking an equivalent to Strava for hiking or Google Maps but tracking my route and waypoints.

What have poeple been using? Free is great, but i don't mind paying if the app works!

Longer term i want to be a GPS fishfinder, but no money for that right now.

Any tips?

Navionics boating

I don’t use it much so don’t remember what it takes to get it to work
Maybe like google maps offline , you might have to download a portion or keep the app open as you go out of service.
But it’s like a hiking app AllTrails, you can save your rout and spots
It has some depth charts that aren’t very accurate, you see your speed and direction and location
It uses up battery life pretty quickly

Most fish finders with GPS allow / show "tracks" (a line that traces exactly the path you took while moving around the lake).

This is useful when re-tracing you trolling path along a drop off (as you can work along this same line on subsequent passes) OR to retrace your path if you are navigating through a shallow waterway.

It also shows where you launched from (or your camp) so you can return to that spot - as all of us have had a day of fishing, returning from a different angle or at low light and without this, would/could have trouble finding our way back to where we want to return.

On a phone as the OP asked, Navioncs will work fine for waypoints and tracks.

Yeah, sorry. I somehow missed that. Must be getting old.

Not sure what the other brands offer but garmin has an app and everything you chart on your boat goes to your phone. Tracks waypoints depth mapping etc. The app is free.
