Default Gold panning

Are there gold panning claims in Alberta or can a person just go to a creek and start panning if they wanted to, if there were claims how would you find out if the place you wished to prospect was or wasn’t part of a claim?

Not much for Placer claims in Alberta, unlike BC. You can pan most waterbodies in Alberta without a permit. If you want to use a Highbanker, powered Sluice, you need a Minerals permit, and stay within the outlined restrictions. In stream Sluicing is not allowed in Alberta. https://open.alberta.ca/publications/2426573
