Smile Advice Modifing Coyote Traps

What's a good length of chain including swivels & shock springs . I did read about 8 " but that is pretty short . Adding swivels & J C Conner Springs it will be passed this 8" length . Would 12 " to 18 " work , the traps now have 18 " length on them. Chain length is important for control & reducing stress but I just want some advice on a ideal length . Thanks

I don't think there is an ideal length.

If you are anchoring your traps, I think shorter is better but if you use drags like I do, longer is better.

I use drags and I want my catch to get tangled quickly so I use longer chains.
The few times I did anchor a trap I found that shorter worked better. Too long a chain allowed the catch to get too much leverage.

Thanks for the advice Keg River. I don't use drags so the shorter the chain I can get away with after adding swivels & shock springs will be what I will do .

Default Chain

Some of the more serious foot holders say ten feet. It reduces the stress and they can't pump out the stake.

I agree don't use short chain or you will have coyotes running around with traps on them
