Default cold lake September Report

Was out yesterday pretty cloudy but calm all day. Trolling with down riggers is always great with silver wiliams wobbler. Tried something new a jointed rapala and a lucky craft crank bait at 40 and 50 feet and the Lakers were inhaling them. Caught a whole bunch in a few hours. All sizes. Turns out these lake trout are camera shy they were avoiding the rig with camera on it. Fish were stacked up down deep below 100 feet but I didn't want to catch those cause they blow up like balloons so I was getting them from 40 to 70 feet down. The fish were really stacked up on the sharp drop offs from 50 to 100 feet trolling along drops worked well. There were bait balls so big they covered the whole fish finder. Biggest one was just millimeters under 75 cm but didn't want to keep him anyways. Caught Lakers in 50 feet to 250 feet of water.

Nice pics Brandon we were there the 3rd week in Aug. and had a blast catching numerous keepers. What an incredible lake and this marks year # 7 for our annual trip to Cold Lake.

Were you catching the 250 footers suspended or near the bottom??? We were marking a lot in the 140-150 foot depths but could never get them to bite.

Suspended, the most active fish are usually the higher suspended ones. There won't be as many but more likely to bite from what I've found. Just put your lines at 50 and 70 feet down troll wherever and you'll catch fish.
