Default Leaseholder vs Bowhunter Appeal Decesion

Just got informed of the official decesion. I win. The leaseholder cannot deny access to a bowhunter because there are cattle in the area because a bowhunter "does not pose a threat to livestock".

Would have been nice to win this back when the Elk were rutting, but a win is a win.

Congrats. Glad to see that the settlement officer saw it your way. Big time precedent set here.

Again congrats.

good for you.

I have permission to hunt some land near Longview. Quite often I've spotted game across the road, but not having permission, could do little more than watch. I've gone cap-in-hand to the landowner several times and asked, even invoked the name of his neighbour I know well, but the answer has always been "no". He would hum and haw, say he already had friends hunting it, liked to keep it in the family, etc.

Then the other day I looked again at the county map. The land I have always been asking to access is actually CROWN LEASED LAND! Think I'll do a little more research, then mosey out there, and if he has no cattle on it, simply inform him of the date and time I'll be hunting that land. What a ^#*#$

That happens all too often. Some of these guys treat grazing leases like deeded land, and thats just not right.

You fought hard and smart for yourself, with ALL Alberta hunters reaping a reward.

Thanks for sticking with it!

One last favour (maybe ), please post up the letter showing the decision. This needs to be shared as common knowledge within the hunting and government community.
