A class on Newell. When and where can I pick up the tags? Any licence issuer between certain dates(May 13-15 or whatever)? First time doing a draw.
Thanks.

Yup. Any license issuer will look up your win and issue tags until the season is over. No rush.

Well for the second year in a row my walleye draw for baptist lake was t awarded. Pretty sad since my native neighbour is getting set to start netting the lake. Bunch of crap imo with a lake that has zero walleye and pike limit.

Congrats, you're the first I've heard to be drawn for Newell this year. My group of 4 and another group of 2 missed the same draw but at least our priority goes up for next year.

Default fishing draw

I was not drawn for either my class A or Class C choice but why is there undersubcribed tags for the lake i want to fish if they didn't even draw me?

Where do you see undersubscribed tags? There is nothing on Alberta Relm yet, only a link to 2015 info.

I refuse to take part in these draws. Thankfully still a couple lakes a guy can get a feed or I can go visit family in SK.

Not awarded for Garner lake. But on the plus side, Metis are Indians now and therefore don't need one. As far as I understand it. Gonna talk to fish and wildlife before I test this new law out in the field though.

They will mail them if you call them and request them to b mailed. You of course could also pick them up your self as it's faster

Just wondering about this Draw/tag system ( this is a first for me).... Ive googled and found nothing. Got awarded Class A in a group draw... I understand that I can now purchase tags how many do they allow? is it per group or per person in the group?

Per person. Typically an "A" tag gives each person 2 tags, the "B and C" give you 3 tags.

Cause it costs money, no guarantee on getting drawn and if you do get drawn might get tags that you don't want.

That said I might consider under subscribed tags this year depending what is available. At least then I am guaranteed tags and can get ones that make sense instead of getting stuck with hard to fill c size or something like that.

How do you get drawn for tags you don't want? Only apply for a waterbody you plan on fishing and for a size you are interested in catching retaining?????

So I should limit my chances by only applying for the good tags that everyone else wants(or should want)? How did that work out for all the Newel guys this year?

As I said earlier there are other options available to me so I decide not to play the fish lottery. I might buy under subscribed tags for the lake I fish if they are available otherwise I will be fine, lots of fish a guy can catch that he doesn't need a stupid tag for.

If you want to enter the draw go ahead that is your choice, I just can't be bothered.

Also, people are applying as groups. A group of 2, 3, 4, 5 is increasingly less likely to get drawn than 1 person.

Combine that with a reduction in quota 2014-2015.
Not to mention they closed all the other lakes in the area, probably saw a significant increase in applicants this year because of that as well. It is going to be a sad day if they go to this tag system everywhere, part of the reason I refuse to support it because I don't want to see it expanded to other lakes/species.

If you are not using the tags - then don't apply for them. All you are doing is taking those tags away from someone who would like to use them.

Understood.

The way I look at it - I apply with a group. It's 3 bucks. So that's like less than a buck each.

I only apply for a "A" tag and don't fill out second and third choices so there is no way in getting "stuck". I don't apply for anything I don't intend on using.

Most lakes, like pigeon, will have lots of undersubscribed tags ( C class likely ) that I could buy If I wanted anyways.

Cost me about $3.50 for me to apply, there was 2 of us. Does not cost anymore for additional applicant. So I guess it was $1.75 each. Spent money on far worse things. I only applied for Newel. No big deal. Darn gubmint got some my money. Not.

Got my Class A Newell. Because Newell tags seem hard to get, does that mean there will be few or no undersubscribed tags available? Not sure how that works.
