Recently purchased a heavy action 7' rod primarily for trolling big lures. Put a baitcaster on it in case I want to chuck around some man hole covers.

I found supersize muskie spinners and big plugs simply were too hard on my medium action or medium light action gear.

I normally use lighter gear, 14lb to 20lb braid, on a med/light rod, for pike and prefer rapalas, storm and other diving plugs.

When I go to certain lakes around here - the medium light stuff stays in my rod locker. I learned the hard way when I was unable to muscle a monster on my 14lb braid and med/light rod.
