Default Newell??

Just wondering if anyone has been to Newell this past bit, thinking of heading there Friday/Saturday. Wondering more about the ice, I know a few resevoirs in the South here are getting to be iffy for ice after this warm snap. Thanks!

Check out wayne christies eyez thread. That will be somewhere in the newel area and give you an idea of what the ice is like.

If it stays this warm in the south i will have to get my boat out onto the lakes before the season closes.

We hit Newell Sat and in most spots we drilled there was 20+ inches.

Right now there is a ton of water on the ice, and have driven past numerous open spots depending on where you are on the lake. I have an argo on tracks and broke through on one spot on purpose and playing around. There is about 16-20 inches across the lake. If your not sure walk, don't drive a truck on.

After checking the ice thickness in 4 separate locations (all about 20-21") at Newell we drove on yesterday (Jan. 28) with no problems and minimal water on the ice. Fishing was good.

Sorry I do not have any pics from our Jan. 28 trip but here are a few from last week. Jan. 20 - general set-up plus a ~37" - 17 lbs (from scale) and Jan. 23 - ~41" - 22 lbs (from scale). All fish released as there is a 0 possession limit on pike from Newell. Good fishing!
