There has been no perch in cumming s lake for a few years now.It was stocked with rainbows in 2012 and 2013 but that was the last year. It freezes solid most winters.

"Although the water level of Cummings Lake is back up. Apparently the water is not presently fit for fish to swim in.

Water from Cummings Lake is being tested after a test batch of trout placed in the lake died. Apparently the lake has quite low oxygen levels.

Director of Community Services Daryl Greenhill told council one theory is the water, which came from the canals, was very high in algae, which can reduce oxygen levels.

Also, some of the water is runoff from farm fields and possibly very high in nutrients, boosting algae growth and cutting oxygen levels.

He said further tests are needed to solve the problem and trout cannot be put in the lake until oxygen levels are back up.

Asked if there are any perch remaining in the lake, Greenhill said when a test-netting was done there were no fish caught but both he and Councillor Tim Schindel have heard rumours perch are being caught at Cummings Lake.

Greenhill added that Perch are much more tolerant of low oxygen levels than trout."

According to the stocking reports 1000 rainbow trout in 2012 and 1000 rainbow trout in 2013.2009 was 500 grass carp.It froze solid the winter before they put the rainbow trout in.thats why they put trout in.Its highly unlikely that there is any perch left or carp left.
