Default What are children in public school being taught in Canada?

Interesting assignment for grade 10 students in Kamloops.

So .... your railing against..... suppression of critical thinking and the promotion of propaganda by ..... doing the exact same things...?

Hmmmm.

This is a one off.

They're not being taught anything...every day I ask my boys what they learnt in school and every day is the same answer (nothing).

Whoever developed the test should be fired in my opinion.

If the answer to a question was

A)Straight
B)Gay
C)transgender

Guaranteed someone would be fired and there would be a bunch of chest pounding and tail feathers wagging. It’s no different, political or sexual preference is a preference not right or wrong.

Hmm...proud papa here. My youngest is in grade 11 taking partial science IB program - his choice.

Learning calculus in grade 11, 3d printer in his chemistry class, reading novels in English.

Yeah, they do some dumb things, but are they ruining the poor kid? Gimme a break. He listens to me drone on every day. Public school gives him a slice of life. The good and the goofy. Kinda like every day he'll live when he's done school.

What the heck does the title of your thread do bub?

Your taking a possible one off stupid assignment.... and paint public schools with it.

https://thebestschools.org/magazine/...generalization

See the above link. Then give your head a shake.

And I’m suggesting that you might be suppressing your own critical thinking skills if you buy into this ‘news’ bit. I’m positive your smarter than that though.

Feel Trollish today?

This story from the "the Rebel" - so I am very careful how they contextualize and report on stories such as these. There is no dispute in what agenda they have as a so called "news group".

HOWEVER

IF .......... this story is real

AND

It was not taken out of context - like a critical thinking exercise, for those who don't understand what that means, is that they are supposed to put in the "stereotypical" answer and then later critically analyze these stereotypes .....often dispelling the myths associated with absolutist thinking based on stereotypes .....

Then ............ the teacher is, clearly, out of line. Way out of line ...

BUT

I think there is more to this story ........ I think this was another clever, out of context, packaging job by another rag media outlet is my guess.

Yes the Rebel is a suspect source, but how else would anyone have heard of this?

It is worthy of discussion, that's why i shared it.period.

Bessy keep on assuming you know my thought's and motive's...hilarious!

My title was chosen simply to bring attention to the thread...what else is a title supposed to do?, are you the thought police?

Group identification and assuming responsibility for someone else in your chosen group doing something that you don't do leads to all sort's of issues.

Are we not individual's anymore?, i know that I AM.

It's ok, it probably feels better to let it all out, hope you feel better now.

PS: i don't even have children in school so the only way that this affect's me is when they all grow up and take over government position's, but i'll be to old to care anymore by that point.

Yea
But that one was written by a Flames fan. The Flames wear red, PinkoCommieFascists all wear red... so it’s not surprising to see the teacher making this.

Bad lessons occur, bad teachers occur. Some of us remember Jim Keegstra.

You wanna indict ‘the public school sustem’ Like ole slick Willy here?

BTW Willy..... what team DO you cheer for...?

Enquiring minds want to know.... (see Wut I did there?)

Two boys in high school in Edmonton public system.
Both have learned in school that Notley/Trudeau are financially ruining the country. Both have learned that we while we need immigration, we are too lax on who we let in. Both have learned that although we need to deal with aboriginal issues the current government is likely not helping.
All this and yet they are learning enough of the 3'R's that they are both in the AP (advanced placement) programs at their school.
I'm not happy with everything they tell me they are presented with...but on the whole most teachers present a quite balanced curriculum.

My son is in gr 10. His Social Studies teacher is a youngish lady. She has told the class repeatedly that she hates Trudeau and Notley. Her phone is set to receive notifications from various news feeds which she shares with her class when they come through. Damn good idea for a Social teacher I must say. I guess she never read AO or The Rebel to find out that all teachers are supposed to be leftist lunatics. Go figure. Maybe the world is not as doomed as the loud crowd on AO repeatedly tell us...

As for this teacher in Kamloops, some serious, serious questions should be asked if this is in fact what she was teaching, though she will never lose her job. As a teacher, little I see surprises me anymore, but still. Wow.

I would comment on this political thread but I just get my posts removed entirely or booted for a couple weeks..... Interesting how some are allowed to ramble on and on and others are Censored yup love how lefties think.

P.S. if CBC said it it MUST be true......lol the hypocrisy.

The bottom line is ..... if this wasn't taken out of context ....... and the teacher used her classroom to push political views (of any kind) that's out of line.

I really don't care if the teacher agrees with my views or doesn't - it's not something a teacher should be doing period.

My kids, both in university now, had a few teachers say a few things I thought really bordered on a razor's edge in terms of ethics. The good news is both kids were smart enough to make up their own minds - and I'd say maybe most kids will.

Our household always tried to present critical thinking when it came to politics. As a result, my 2 kids have completely opposing viewpoints on politics and who they support in elections.

Hopefully, if this story wasn't taken out of context, and the teacher did try and influence students - most kids are smart enough to think critically for themselves as well.

I have been growing concerned about the things I’ve been hearing that schools are pushing on kids now days. Maybe the things I’ve heard will give me years to calm down. I will pull my son out of school in a heart beat if it pushes my families beliefs and values far enough.
