Default Southern Ice???

I'm wondering how much ice is left down south? All the wind and warm weather, is it melting the insulation of snow or is it starting to ruin the ice. I only want to walk on but I need to take into account my fishin partner is 265 and our gear is close to that.

mcgregor is clear ice and sturdy but i wouldn't drive on it,, it is very fishured (<?) so i'm guessing most other ice is the same,,, no snow on ice where we were. bring cleats or wear socks over your boots

Clear Lake was 7-8 inches...but it took a beating as you could see where it had been shattered into a million pieces by the wind and has now re-frozen.

Ice thickness today in PCR is 4-5 inch. With this very strong wind ice cleats are important.

Thank you. Has the wind been changing direction lots? Wondering if extra tent pegs are needed.

when its this windy I use 8 anchors, just in case PCR can get crazy windy in a real hurry I found that out the hard way, had to hold the tent down while the wife put in the anchors, it had started as a nice calm day, nom its at least 4 anchors everytime I go out, just in case.

i fished on the beginning of the heave at the wall and you could feel it moving,, it was the noisiest ice,,, as for fishures, it was more like spiderweb ice but really solid but more web pattern than other years,,, it's safe but not for a vehicle

I am pretty sure it is open again.

I am thinking that if my boat part comes in I will be looking for a big walleye lake to launch the boat.

I think there will be quite a bit of open water around here in the near future.

was at cavan yesterday and was about 8 inches pretty solid ice. very noisy and lot of movement though.just gotta be careful, about 40 yds to south of us it was only 2" and some open spots even. extremely slippery as no snow pack on ice.

Default 40-mile / KEHO

Was on 40-mile Xmas day; 5-1/2"; but after the last couple days of this warm weather and wind not sure how good the ice would be!! There were a couple open spots along the edges of 40-mile.
Has anyone been out ot Keho, wondering how the ice is there?

PCR last night was 5 inches of good hard clear ice.

No snow cover and very slippery, so be careful.
