Default Driving on southern lakes

any thoughts about the safety of driving on Southern Alberta lakes (lake Newell primarily)? I'm a lazy ass fisherman at times and like my vehicle with me when I safely can. Has anyone been or seen anyone driving on Newell with this cold snap?

Less than a week ago was open water on many of the lakes. I wouldnt drive on yet, not worth the risk.

I was fishing on Lake Newell last Sat. in a southwest corner bay (before the cold snap) and 2 separate pick-up trucks drove on the lake. 1 parked, fished and stayed most of the day. Ice was 11-12" thick last Sat. We parked on shore and walked on.

Im not really brave when it comes to driving on, so unless I am following someones tracks or hear on here that the ice is good and thick, I think I will play it safe and walk on. Buuuuuut I do like the convenience of having my truck with me.
