Thumbs up Albino Catfish! Caught near Winnipeg Today!

Hey Everyone,

I just got home from my first trip fishing for catfish just outside of Winnipeg. A relative and I booked a half day trip to try it out (always something I wanted to do) and we had an awesome morning!

We caught 10 large catfish in less than 4 hours, with most of them being around 15-20 pounds. Great fighting fish and the guide had great gear that really allowed us to enjoy fighting the fish. I'll be doing this every time I come back to Winnipeg now - and it was only $350 for a 4 hour trip (which blows my mind!)

To top it all off - my fishing partner caught a nice sized ALBINO CATFISH! The guide said he's probably seen more than 20,000 catfish landed in his life, and this is the first time he's ever seen one!

When the fish first surfaced we were all a little bit confused as to what it was. It was very light colored with a bit of an orange tinge - but it looked like a catfish from a distance so we really didn't know what to make of it. As soon as the guide saw the "whiskers" (not sure what you really call them!) you could tell that he was a little bit excited! Fortunately we were able to land the fish and release him unharmed quickly. Very cool experience and we're super fortunate to have laid eyes on him!

We even got it on video but I'll wait until it gets posted on YouTube before we put it up here. Here are some photos from the morning though. Great guide and we had an awesome experience. If you're ever in Winnipeg between the spring and fall months I would highly recommend trying this out!

The guide was named Donovan and he runs www.BlackWaterCats.com Awesome guy and I'll be going back repeatedly to fish with him!

Enjoy the photos. What an awesome morning!!!

Thanks for posting. Nice fish. Nostalgic for me as I grew up fishing in that very spot. We didn't fish for cats in those days, just walleye, sauger and silver bass.

Default Video of the Albino Catfish getting caught...

Here's the YouTube video of the Albino Catfish getting caught and landed.

Pretty fortunate timing that I had the phone rolling on this one. Lots of action that day and I only had video running on 2 fish all morning.

Very cool. That's a once in a lifetime catch. Congratulations sir. I love that spot. Some giants lurk in those waters.
