I have a couple and the jigging attachment. Setup depends on many things: line # test, weight of bait/lure on your line, size of target fish...

Setting too light may cause lack of hook-ups.....or it may not

I always have the second line on a jawjacker.

I made a home job with a mousetrap trigger last year, works decent and easy to put together!

It’s the best tool I have for walleye. I have used basic ice fishing rods from Canadian tire all with braided line so you don’t need fancy or expensive to catch fish. You want to set it up so it has a good bend in it when set. Have the arms opened up completely and not sideways. Make sure not to get the trigger mechanism wet during cold weather or it won’t function properly. Learning to set the depth when locked is different for everyone. I always use a jig and minnow so when I place minnow I make sure it is facing level in the water so it’s easier for fish to grab it. Keep your drag set firm for hookset but loose enough for them to pull line after. Just like anything you will learn tricks the more you use it.

Great units, have tried a couple homemade versions but the trigger mechanism that the actual jaw jackers have is hard to duplicate. The right rod is pretty important, it can't be to soft or it won't set the hook, to stiff and the fish don't stay hooked.

Favourite setup with them for walleye lakes is to but a simple jig or spoon and a minnow at the end of the line, and a single plain hook and a minnow tied with a palomar above it about a foot. Single hook should stand straight out if done correctly. For trout a similar setup with a tungsten jig and bait at the bottom and a single hook with a piece of worm or leech above it.

I have a jaw jacker and an I fish pro. I pefer the I fish pro to the jaw jacker personally. Set your depth with the I fish pro with a bobber stop leave the bale open on the real set flag into position and walk away. I use a octopus hook on it and when the flag goes up I walk over remove the insulated base and close the bale set the hook. The I fish pro can be used in really cold temps.

The jawjacker is good as well but as others have mention it freezes up some times. I also just use a bare hook and a couple split shots for them as well.

I use the jigging jaw jacker every time I go. Use it for all species.
They're awesome.
Caught some whitefish on it last week using the more subtle jigging wheel and wire worms.

Made my own base with pvc and some coathanger for the trigger. There are piles of homemade out there.

First of all “ Stay out of the line of fire”!! They are easy to accidentally set off, especially when you are new to them!!! Nothing like a good smack on a frozen nose to wake you up, but getting one in the eye would be bad. I too, have been out fished by my jawjacker several times!!

Mine out fishes me most days as well. It also tends to catch all the big fish. It's like the silent assassin sitting off on its own all day.
