Default Props

Just wondering what people are finding to be a versatile prop pitch for the fishing boats out there. I suspect in the lower hp range this makes less of a difference but those with a 75 to 150 hp or even more, I'm curious as to what people have been finding. From discussions with another member, I don't believe I'm the only one thinking about a prop switch.

I'm currently running a 15 on a 90hp to a 165 Alumacraft dominator. My hole shot is great, but I feel a bit light on the tope end at around 33 to 34 mph and was sort of hoping I could have less idle speed (I'd love to have an idle speed of around that 2.5 mph but currently closer to 3.5 mph). I'm more then willing to give a bit on the hole shot to slow down the idle and increase the top end. Any thoughts on this? For what its worth I'm running a 90 hp Etec.

You might wanna try a 17 pich for a little more on the top end a heavy stainless one might also help with a slower idle speed but they are more pricey.
I've picked up a few props at recreational power sports and I've found them to be very helpful

The prop pitch helped out huge with my 1999 alumacraft magnum 165 with a 40 hp merc. I was running a 13 and ended up dropping to the 12 and put a 6 inch jack plate on it and I have gain so much extra speed and hole shot. I use to have trouble hitting 19 mph and could barely plain but now it doesn't take me long to plain and I hit 26.7 mph gps yesterday by myself. I was told I would be lucky to hit 20 mph by myself and I would never see 25 mph which is what I was hoping to see with 2 people and all my gear in the boat. I think prop pitch is one of the biggest things to look at when trying to tune in a motor for max performance. I am still thinking about getting another prop. Same pitch but 4 blade so I can get on plain even faster.

4 blade will be slower on top end than your 3. Ran one on our 150 merc then the 175 Etec. Switched to a 3 and didn't notice much on hole shot but top end improved.

If you are at the ridge this weekend, I wouldn't mind looking at the jack plate set-up. I am running a 60 horse merc with a 10 3/8" 13 pitch and am only getting 30.1 mph on the 16.5 Lund. PM me and we'll try to hook up.

I will be at ridge but we fish out of my partners ranger so I wont have it out there. if you are heading through lethbridge on your way home we could arrange for you to stop by the house and have a peak at it. It is the best thing I have done to my boat as far as major mods go. I can't wait until I can afford to get a bigger motor and strap it to the plate. Doesn't look like its in the cards this year since I have an arrange salmon and halibut trip to the charlottes with mark H. on here.

Just look for the little 14 foot older trailer with a black mazda b4000 truck parked with it that has a matching black topper and black wheels. Me and my partner will also be in a black ranger boat with a red stripe and a bunch of sponsor decals on it. If you see us just stop by and say hi and we can try to arrange something.
