Breathable waders for sure make sure they fit proper especially in the feet the wife had a pair that didn't fit all she did was complain. She chose a hip pack rather than a vest something about boobs and gear don't mix lol.Arms would rub on the vest a little to much.As for the Rod I think a nice beginner set up in 5/6 weight would be a good all around idea.If she's serios about it send her to some lessons it's way better than teaching her yourself cause there's no fighting or argueing lol that's all stuff I learnt hope it helps a little.

Default I just had to open this thread to wish you luck

As a dog trainer I thought you were trying to force fetch your wife?
Good luck

I would highly recommend women's specific waders as they fit us so much better! Sims breathable are the best for me so far.

For gear maybe a reddington or TFO rod in 6 wt and a basic reel just to hold line. I assume its for trout? Sage makes this wicked awesome pink 5 wt though too. Just sayin. http://www.sageflyfish.com/fly-rods/outfits/grace/

Also I agree with vital about getting her actual lessons. Unless you are very very patient expect some arguing/silent treatment from the missus when you correct her I wish I had gotten lessons when I learned.

Best set up would be introductory lessons where she gets to keep the rod. T

x2 LOL, but seriously...

I would recommend "Fish Tales" and "West winds" flyshops in Calgary. Go in and ask their advice for a good starter rod, reel, and line set up.

I saw the FF and thought the same as WW.

With my wife, we started with a wooden dowel. It took about 2 weeks to work up to the beer can, and nearly three months to get to the tray with the beer and the sammich together. She's Scottish you know.

Now the e collar hardly comes into use. I'm glad as it was starting to rub my neck raw.

Joining a club is better than using one. Be prepared to put in the time whether you have someone else do the training or you do it yourself.

Sending my wife to lessons saved my marriage, and that's the exact rod I got for her when she decided fly fishing was fun

Winch, Lynda McLennan is a very good fly fishing instructor and often gives lessons to women's groups right on the Sheep River in Okotoks (or used to). I took lessons from Jim years ago. I think they live around High River. You and the wife could take a private lesson day together.

When I took lessons I got to try lots of different equipment to see what I cast well (ok, I didn't cast anything well LOL) and also got guidance on what equipment to buy.

Personally, once the Sheep and Highwood are open in June I never wear waders on them. Warm enough to just wet wade.
