Ok, no longer constipated!
I was cleaning my pavement off today, and while I was busy with the gas blower I noticed a 'presence' that was not there a second ago.
Within a couple feet was a huge male mastiff, and a almost as huge female dark grey brindle looking beast.
He was aggressive looking, barking and smiling, but had that playful look. I talked to him and sure enough I got the head rocking side to side 'do I know you' look? She was not as easy to talk to, she had a leash dangling and was way more standoffish.
My neighbor showed up a minute later, phone in hand and worried look. He was walking his puppy in his own yard, and the beasts went after him. He called the RCMP.
Another neighbor showed up, by this time I had her secured in the yard, used a big bar stuck in the ground to hold her leash. He had dumped a can of ether in the cavernous mouth of the male when he tried to eat his little old dog.
My wife was in full panic mode, my dogshy neighbor who became a daddy yesterday was shaking, I was trying to figure out how not to put 3 12ga into him if he attacked, and found the best weapon I had handy; a tennis ball in the grass. Apparently he is young and we got along fine, although both a little apprehensive.
I am going to have a little chat with the new neighbor who owns the beasts when he gets back from out east, and there are 3 complaint letters going to the town office.
I love dogs, hate ditship neighbors.

When I first got my Rottie, I was walking her around the block. She was maybe 4 months old I think. As I got on the the last leg of the trip home I for some reason turned around. I saw two dogs. One, a 120lb rottie and another even bigger Mastiff barreling towards us. I mean just runnin straight for me and my pup. I'm not a panicker, and this wasn't an exception. I got I front of my dog, in between them and her. Put on my sternest face and did my best dog whisperer thingy I could. Not sure it was the right thing to do but they slowed down at us and took a few sniffs of her and left the way they came. That was definately a clenching my **** kind of moment. Could have went sour real fast.

Brave man Hoagie.
It was tough holding my ground, keeping a low voice and not running away screaming like a little girl lol.
These dogs are huge, I was nervous.

Gots me a feeling that the neighbour is also going to be feeling the 'presence' of a large, hairy, smelly beast behind him once he gets home.

Imagine if instead of The Hulk cleaning off the pavement, it was a young kid that knew only to panic and run...
I'm glad you got it handled. yikes.

ether's long term effect on the mastiff?
Maybe the beast's neighbourhood cred will go all to h3ll, what with his shyt eating grin now being permanent.

That is a very cute hound!
I almost bought an English Mastiff a few years ago, she was huge and a sweetheart.
These dogs are not sweethearts.
