Default Vegreville Pond

Hi All,

Just became a new user of this forum and wanted to pass on some info. Went to Vegreville Pond just off Hwy 16 last weekend with a colleague before the wicked storm passed through. Fished from 6:30-8:30 using a drop weight - worm - size 6 hook configuration and we tied into a wee bit of action but it was principly perch. Of nine fish brought in, eight were perch in the 7 to 12 inch range (all released) and only one was a rainbow trout. One could even see shoals of baby perch near the shoreline. In looking at the regs I noticed that for stocked ponds/lakes, it is illegal to keep any fish other than those used for stocking. Am I off-base in thinking it would make more sense, in light of the postings I've seen by Sundance, that bodies stocked by the province should encourage the harvesting of competing fish like perch....or am I being too logical? ;-)
