Good job on releasing, but I hope when you weighed it you didn't stick a scale hook in its mouth and gills. If so, then more than likely she will die. Kudos for C&R but the best thing to do is get a measurement of the length and girth, and then there is a website with a formula you put the information into and it will give you the weight which is accurate to 1/1000th of a pound. Still a nice big pike nonetheless!

Very nice fish indeed, congrats on your success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
TundraBuck, do you ice fish? I was wondering what is the best way to get a fish out of the hole without having something hooked through it's mouth and bringing it up vertical. I would hate to put any stress on the fish before I release it. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hey Deano. I do ice fish, I would have to say I am fairly avid as well. I meant a scale with a point poking through its internal gill plate. When I am pulling northerns out of the hole, especially big ones, I stick my pointer and middle finger in its outer gill plate right at the farthest point to the snout and then put my thumb on its chin on the outside. This allows you to pull the fish out of the hole then quickly level it horizontally, and it does not harm the fish.

Ya some young guy told me to release it... Me!.. ha ha!
Anyways
Big pike don't taste good at all !
All big pike are all femals mostly all those that are over 10 pounds and this girl was full of eggs. That would be a waste !
In releasing her someone else can enjoy catching her again!
Humm ! I wonder how many times she's been caught !
