BCX10181112_high.jpgSPARWOOD, B.C. - Police have issued an Amber Alert for a three-year-old boy missing in Sparwood, B.C., after searching for him for most of the day.

Kienan Hebert was last seen when his family put him to bed Tuesday evening at his home in the southeastern B.C. community located about 600 kilometres east of Vancouver.

Hebert, who police are now referring to as an "abducted" child, is described as a red-haired Caucasian boy and was last seen wearing a blue pair of Scooby Doo boxer shorts.

Police say they're looking for Randall Hopley, 46, who is of no relation to Hebert.

They are also looking for a brown 1987 Toyota Camry with the license plate 098RAL and are warning the public not to approach the vehicle.

"Nothing has been ruled out but certainly we are considering foul play of course in this matter, but again we remain hopeful and optimistic in thoughts with the family that we're going to have a positive outcome to this effort so far in locating the child unharmed and well," said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

Moskaluk said the boy was reported missing at about 9 a.m Wednesday morning.

Search-and-rescue officials then went into action and a police dog unit and RCMP helicopter were called in to conduct a search of the ground, he added.

Meantime, members of the RCMP's Southeast District Major Crime Unit, Cranbrook RCMP and the local Elk Valley detachment conducted another investigation, examining the scene of the disappearance to determine what happened to Hebert, said Moskaluk.

"There's a history that Kienan does sleepwalk, but in past incidents, he's never exited the house. Other than that, there's not much else (to explain his disappearance)."

Moskaluk said officials decided to look at issuing an Amber Alert around 5:30 p.m.

He said he couldn't answer why investigators identified Hopley as a person of interest.

"I don't know what the connection is ... I just get apprised as to OK, yeah, we're going to be able to go this route."

However, Moskaluk did say Hopley is currently on probation with conditions and is residing in the Sparwood area.

Moskaluk said Hopley should speak to investigators once he becomes aware police are looking for him.

He also said the ground search for Hebert will continue.

Court records show multiple convictions for crimes in Sparwood for a man named Randall Peter Hopley, born in 1965.

This past June, he was sentenced to two months in jail and two months of probation after he was convicted of assault. The assault occurred in April of this year in Sparwood, court records indicate.

He was also convicted in 2006 for a break-and-enter in Sparwood, for which he received a conditional sentence of nine months.

In 2003, he received a one-year conditional sentence for theft under $5,000, and in 2002 he was handed a three-month conditional sentence after he was convicted of break-and-enter.

Thoughts and prayers go out for the little boy and his family... hope he returns home safely..

Amber Alert issued for person of interest
Initially police said they suspected Kienan may have been sleepwalking and a massive search of the area was launched by emergency officials and volunteers.

But then late on Wednesday afternoon police issued an Amber Alert for a person of interest in the case, saying they were looking for Randall Hopley, who they want to talk about the boy's disappearance.

Police say Hopley, who is not related to the Hebert family, is a resident of the area who has a police record with a dozen break-and-enter convictions and a history of sexual deviance.

Still praying for the childs safe return....

Having a 3yr old boy... I have a huge knot in my stomach.. I can't even imagine what the parents are going through.

This makes me sick I have a 3 and a 1 year old, I cannot imagine what the family is going through, and what the little boy has already been through.

I am praying for the boy and the entire family involved!!!!!!!!

Judging by the picture of this "RANDALL HOPLEY" and his previous conviction's you can tell he is a complete loser to our society!!!!!!!!

Having a 3 year old daughter i cant imagine the thought of this happening. WT? goes threw peoples heads? Guys like this should be gut shot and left for the buzzard and coyotes imo.

Heads up while hunting. Especially in 400/402. The guy probably knows the country and its amazing he has avoided discovery driving that POS. I am thinking his car is going to be found really close to Sparwood in the hills.

No way a dead beat like that has enough cash in his pocket to get far. Not to mention the police would have let us know if he used his debit card in a far away place.

I hope the locals find him before the cops do.

This is an article from the Crowsnest Pass that I just received from a friend...This happened within the last few years...Hopley is known to police but the courts keep releasing him...Why do they keep letting out people like this?

I just heard on the news that unfortunately the Ferry deal was a false alarm. I sure hope not. With a 3 YO and a 1 MO it just makes me sick. As others have said I can't imagine the feeling. Thoughts and prayers with the family.

I had my 4 yr old daughter abducted by a perv in med hat yrs ago. Like all of you who have never been there I always said I would do the unmentionable to him. BUT there were three! I had the 12 guage , and I had the house BUT I also had the common sense to reflect on what would go down AFTER I pulled the trigger, and By not doing so I believe I saved my childs mental situation and avoided going to jail leaving my family without any one to protect them! Had I killed someone that day I would have certainly ruined my daughters life because of all the notoriety that goes hand in hand with this stuff. The gestapo NEVER even asked to see my gun AFTER I had verbally threatened to shoot! When the smoke cleared and I spent 2 hrs with the cops in my house and at the hospital 4 hrs there . The sexual assault samples I was TOLD to bring as evidence , THE DR told me : For all I know YOU may have placed this in there yourself ! So much for that. I did go see the chief of police and he would not let me see the pervs record , Very young and very long. I carved his name in my headliner of my truck and have never forgotten !
So before anyone goes shooting off into the dark about what they may or may not do , YOU may make a very bad decision !THINK! It may be the most sensible thing you ever did in your life!

My freind , when you have murder on your mind and your reasoning is clouded with hatred , because someone molested your child , It can be difficult, BUT in this case I had my daughter with me , she was in the back seat sceaming , ONLY four yrs old .NO idea what had happened to her , The bruises told the story! THAT is what brought me to my senses!
Life must go on , there are othere ways to get around stuff like this, It,s just that some of us are lucky to get second chances when we are about to do bad deeds!

Just heard unconfirmed reports that this scum bag was just seen at the Crows Nest Pass Fas Gas with the little boy. He is suspected of traveling through to K-Country and onto 22x. He is still driving the brown 87 Toyota camery. I'm not sure how true the report is, but just incase I figured there are alot of members here and this new info might help people take a second look at any older cars.

Also just finished reading how this piece of $€>t was caught squatting in a abandond cabin. When the owners found him there and had him arrested, the cabin was found full of sex toys, diapers, porn, pj's made into thongs. Among many other sick things. To top it all off he was then released with nothing other then conditions to deal with untill his court date of sept 19th

I am truly sorry to hear about what happened to your family. As a father of 2 young girls I know how I "THINK" I would react. The truth is that I don't know and hope to God that I never find out.

I am not a religious person, but if there is something after this life,then there is most certainly a special place reserved for the animals who do these things.

As a parent of young children also this just makes me sick to my stomach.How could they release someone like this.Surly the courts had to see the warning signs.Heads should roll for this.My deepest sympathies to the family as it endures this tragic event that could have been prevented

Well i think everyone's idea of what should happen to scumbags like this, is a result of our failed justice system. Any normal human being knows it is too weak, i guess thats the biggest reason why we all have our own ideas of what should be done with people like this.

I would love to see a revamping of our justice system done by Sherriff Joe. And as mentioned i guess none of us really know how we would handle the situation until we are put in it. Best of luck parfleche, i hope your family was able to recover from that ordeal

Are there any descriptions of this guys mannerisms? I saw this strange guy yesterday in Calgary that looked a lot like him, but bald. A LOT!!!!! Guy obviously had some sort of mental issues, same bitter-beer type face. Came flying off a bus at a very fast pace, walking at a nearly jogging speed into the mall. Was enough to definitely bring attention to him, but I never thought much of it at the time. He Looked disturbed and in a hurry, and a lot like that guy. Wish i'd seen that picture and his name before I saw this guy! Feeling sick not knowing if maybe that was the guy and I could have got him off the streets right there... Would've called his name and see if he reacted...

****! Keep coming back to look at his picture... really wondering if I should inform the police or what.... But thats in BC, I saw this in Calgary... probably over reacting... but.......

There is an amber alert out in BC and there is no police situated outside the home of the little boy to catch this creep when the boy gets dropped off? Wow...
