Default Would talent win over equipment?

Interesting discussion at the range yesterday. The question came up of how much equipment makes a difference in competition. If you have an entry level bow and your opponent has a flagship target bow, given the same level of skill and talent, would the equipment make the difference in competition or would it be a tie?

The only variable there would be the equipment given skill being the same .
In that case then the equipment would make a difference
However in the real world , skill level is not always the same from competitor to competitor

Default Skill

If you can outfit the bows the same or have the ability to set them up to their liking I would say skill. I have seen many skilled archers take a kids bow or a significant lesser quality, efficient bow and shoot lights out. When you have the skill to know how to shoot great you can shoot any bow.

Thumbs up

Skill/talent trumps equipment....but equipment helps.

Same goes for hunting, look at all the fellas geared up and end up eating mcdonalds then the fella will a lot less fandangled gear ends up with a freezer full of wild game meat....

It was told to me once that the equipment matters if you have skill better than said equipment.

Same shooters, same skill level, different equipment, both poor skills, no one is at any more of an advantage per se. But both shooters have good skill or better, then the equipment will come in to play.

This has no bearing on what discipline, archery, shotgun, rifle, hockey, RC Cars, whatever it may be. It's a general rule and of course there are always exceptions.

Sometimes you need equipment to hit the next level of skill....but the best equipment cannot make up for lack of skill.

I attended a 3D shoot in NB and watched 2 old guys with barn board self bows , and wood arrows made from barn boards out shoot everyone there with the latest and greatest Laminated bows , glass backed bows, and carbon backed bows. It was humbling, .
